My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Who is the most handsome boy around? Stirrup!

This 4-month-old bundle of fun is oh-so ready to be your newest best friend. He is the goofiest boy who knows no strangers as everyone he meets becomes his instant bestie. He is looking for an active family that can keep up with his puppy energy and smart little mind. Stirrup currently weighs about 30lbs and will likely be at least 50-60lbs when fully grown.

Stirrup was found as a stray on a ranch his foster mom was working on. He was never claimed by an owner, so his foster mom decided to bring him home to Davis. She reached out to us and became a foster home so we could help find him his fur-ever home.

Stirrup is the sweetest boy who loves making new friends and going on outdoor adventures. He has been doing great for car rides and walking on a leash and with the cooler weather coming up, he would love to be your hiking buddy. Stirrup is a smart little boy and can easily get bored, so he needs a family dedicated to keeping his days enriched with lots of mental and physical stimulation. He has been learning all his basic manners but is still working on some things, so his new family should be prepared to continue his training and help him grow up to be the best boy he can be.

Stirrup has done great with all the dogs he has met and would love another playful medium/large dog sibling. He may do well as an only dog with lots of opportunities to socialize with other friendly dogs. Due to his playful personality, he likely would be too much energy for an older dog. Stirrup has done well interacting with cats and seems like he would do well living with dog-savvy cats with a slow introduction and proper supervision. Stirrup has been exposed to cattle and other farm animals and has done well. He could make a wonderful addition to a family with kids 10 years or older.

Stirrup has been doing very well with his housetraining but is still a puppy and his new family should expect some accidents while he is transitioning into a new environment and routine. He has been doing well with his crate training and is fine to hang out in his crate when home alone and at night.

Stirrup is such a great little boy and we know he is going to make the best addition to a family. If he sounds like he might be the family member you're missing in your life, submit an adoption application today!

Stirrup's adoption fee is $400.

The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes.

Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption.
