My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bella is a beautiful blackish-brindle with white on her nose, chest and paws. She's presumed to be a lab/pit mix and just over a year in age. She's so playful and loves to be loved! Playing fetch with a ball or tug-of-war are her games of choice. This girl has lots of energy! She likes to gallop through our fenced-in yard and leaps like a gazelle.
She's housebroken and kennel trained. She also knows "sit" and "down" commands fairly well and is highly treat-motivated, eager to learn more. She gets along great with other dogs, but so far not cats. Her bark is unmistakable and comes out when something needs to be brought to our attention. A playful, loving, smart guard dog are her best qualities.

She's such a sweetie and will make the perfect companion to someone special.

Adopt-A-Pet Events in the Kansas City Area

Cat adoptions are held at the PetSmart at 115th and Metcalf in Overland Park KS every Saturday from 12:00 to 3:00. Cats available for adoption every day at PetSmart in-store cage area.

Dog adoptions are held at the PetSmart in Olathe KS at 119th and Strang Line, every Saturday from 12:00 to 3:00.

Dog adoptions are held at the PetSmart in Lee's Summit MO at 920 NE Sam Walton Lane, also every Saturday from 12:00 and 3:00.

The Heart of America Humane Society is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization helping to place shelter and foster animals into permanent homes in and around the greater Kansas City metro area.

Our goal is to save and improve the lives of Kansas City's homeless companion animals by promoting responsible pet ownership. The Heart of America Humane Society (HAHS) partners with the Lee's Summit Animal Shelter (Lee's Summit MO) and KCK Animal Services (Kansas City KS) to increase pet adoptions into responsible, permanent homes.

Background
Our organization does not have a permanent facility or paid staff, so many of our adoptions take place at PetSmart stores and occasionally through other event venues. Some events raise awareness and bring in donations for our animal support efforts, while others help acknowledge and show appreciation for our own volunteers (who perform all duties outside of their regular jobs).
