My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Scale the heights with Denali!

Meet Denali! Denali is in a foster home in Spokane, WA and can be transported to your area (see below in the “Adopting from Path of Hope Rescue” section).

Denali has black mask markings and snowy white fur reminiscent of glaciers in the park that inspired her name. Sweet natured and goofy, Denali gets along well with dogs and people (adults and children), and she is also comfortable being on her own. She will join you for an explore or trot up to you for pets and ear rubs. And Denali has some serious side eye game!

Back in January of 2021, we rescued her and her pups from a shelter in Texas. The puppies quickly found new homes, and sweet, endearing Denali was adopted by an older couple willing to give her the love and attention she deserved. After losing his spouse and suffering severe medical issues, her adopter was faced with the reality that he could no longer care for her, and he returned her to us.

While in foster care with us, it was evident that Denali, in addition to being grossly obese (Denali was 50lbs over her ideal weight), was suffering from other medical conditions as well. Testing revealed she had bladder stones, including one the size of an egg, that would require medical intervention. Denali had successful surgery in July, and she has fully recovered. She will need to remain on prescription food for the rest of her life to prevent more stones, and she may be prone to urinary tract infections, so an adopter will need to be watchful for these. Denali’s foster has worked to get her weight down to 62 lbs., closer to her goal weight in the 40 lb. range.

After losing one third of her body weight, Denali playfully romps with the other dogs in her foster home and enjoys playing outside. She bounds around the yard, stopping to encourage the resident dogs to join her in her games. Denali is always up for a ride in the car or a brisk walk with her people. Losing weight has made a huge difference in her quality of life.

Sometimes rescue can be a lot like climbing a mountain; you need to take a lot of switchbacks before you get to where you want to be. Lovely Denali is an example of this. Her destination is a home with people to love who will love her in return and ensure she gets the exercise and proper diet she needs to continue her health journey. Are ready to scale the heights with Denali?

“Fur-st Impressions” are very important! Schedule a meet and greet with Denali before applying to see if she is the perfect fit for your family by emailing us at Fur-stImpressions@pathofhoperescue.com.  A completed Adoption Application will be required after the meet and greet to move forward with Denali’s adoption.

What is Path of Hope Rescue’s Adoption Process?

Our adoption process takes on average 7-10 days.

  1. Begin by completing the online application. EVERY application receives an email response from us (check your spam folder!).

  2. Your personal Matchmaker will contact you, help you find your perfect pup match, and guide you through the process.

  3. Meet your potential pup at the home of the foster family (the process may differ slightly for long distance adopters).

  4. Bring your potential pup home for a no commitment In Home Trial. In Home Trials are a minimum of (2) nights for a puppy and one week for an adult. Your Matchmaker will check in with you during this time.

  5. Sign the adoption paperwork and adopt your new family member!

Adopting from Path of Hope Rescue

  • Our adoption process sets us apart. We specialize in learning about you and your family to find just the right fit for you. Our Matchmakers are not only good at what they do; they will also guide you through the entire process.

  • Our Minimum Adoption Donation is $550 for puppies under a year and $450 for dogs a year and older. We are a WA state registered non-profit and rely heavily on adoption donations to cover the expenses associated with saving lives. Our dogs are spayed/neutered prior to adoption; microchipped with free lifetime registration; and up to date on DAPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccinations (when age appropriate) and deworming and heartworm treatment/prevention. Adopters can also earn a $100 training refund if they attend (6) hours of any in person training course.

  • Long Distance adopters (one hour or more from Spokane) may choose to travel to Spokane to pick up their dog or use our monthly transport option, Puppy Delivery Express, for an additional delivery donation of $250. Puppy Delivery Express currently delivers dogs throughout Washington and to parts of Montana, Idaho, and Oregon.

About Path of Hope Rescue

  • At Path of Hope Rescue, our goal is to make EVERY DOG. WANTED. Our two employees and army of volunteers focus on transporting pregnant dogs and puppies from Texas, the number one kill state in America. The dogs we rescue are in poor living conditions and on euthanasia lists in shelters that are inundated with unwanted animals. We want to give these dogs a chance and bring them to the Pacific Northwest to find adoptive, loving homes.

  • We are 100% foster based; our dogs are fostered in loving homes where they are house and crate trained and learn basic obedience and leash skills. Dogs experience socialization opportunities with people, places, and other animals, and they receive the attention required to become well-rounded, healthy, and affectionate dogs that they would not otherwise receive in a shelter environment.

  • Our commitment does not end when the dog is adopted. Path of Hope offers post adoption owner support including information on making the dog’s transition to your home a smooth one; recommendations for Preferred Trainers; advice on pet behavior and wellness topics; Facebook litter groups to keep in touch with fellow adopters; and invitations to local rescue hosted events.

  • Please visit https://www.pathofhoperescue.com/ for more information about our organization and the adoption process.
