My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When Boomer came to us, we immediately saw his potential, and we also quickly observed that he was severely under-socialized with people, was very scared, and protected himself by biting. At 4.5 years old and 26.5 lbs., he’s a little guy who makes a big impact. Our team has been working with him tirelessly to help him adjust. He recently went out on a walk around a busy shopping mall and did well, and he can now be walked by multiple people without feeling terrified.

Don't rush to apply, just yet, however. He still needs a patient adopter who will go slow with him, will read his body language and cues, and will take care of his physical issues. Like many Frenchies, he has many allergies and will need extra vet visits, medication, and an anti-allergy diet. He will be more expensive to care for than a typical dog.

So, if you think you want him.... DO apply if you understand the unique challenges of Frenchies, understand dog behavior, are a top-notch calm and VERY patient confident leader, and can and will continue to set up Boomer to be a great, happy dog that doesn't ever bite again. If you can’t check every box, don’t worry; we have many, many, many other GREAT dogs that need you! Please apply for one of them.November 4, 2024, 8:32 pm

Additional adoption info

All of our animals come fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered (if old enough), and microchipped. Puppies and kittens will be spayed/neutered and have all shots when they are old enough. There is an Adoption application, a quick phone interview to make sure it is a good fit, a meet and greet with the dog, then a home check, and an adoption contract. We ask for a $400 donation for adult dogs, and $500 for puppies at the time of adoption so that we can save other dogs from the shelter. More about this rescue

Dogs are man's best friend, but it is not always the other way around. The Little Red Dog was founded in memory of a little red American Pit Bull Terrier who did not make it. If you are familiar with the Michael Vick dog fighting case chronicled in The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption. The Little Red Dog was brutally beaten to death by Vick and his cronies because she didn't want to fight.

The Little Red Dog rescues dogs; red, blue, tan, white, brown, black and all colors in between. We do not discriminate against ANY breed; that's because we are a real rescue, and we will help as many animals as we can. Our primary goal is to get them into loving homes. Our hope that some day all of them make it, but most of all, we will never forget the Little Red Dog and many others who did not.
