My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kalamazoo!

We rescued Kalamazoo from Riverside County Department of Animal Services on August 20th. He is 8 years old and weighs 19 lbs. Kalamazoo was so scared when he arrived at FFF, but despite that, he quickly learned all of the routines onsite. He knew to run out the sliding glass door into our play yard when his kennel was opened, and he knew exactly which kennel was his to run back into when it was bedtime. He's a very smart cookie!

Thankfully, in mid-September, Kalamazoo was chosen to live in Foster home with a very patient family who is allowing him to decompress in a calm environment and is celebrating all of his small steps forward. Here is the lastest update from his Foster Mom:

"We recently went on a road trip, and Mr.Kalamazoo came along! For him, this trip was life changing. We had so much progress just in this one week then the entire 1.5 months we have had him and couldn't be happier!

Kalamazoo still won't let us watch him eat or go potty and he will only do those things when no one is "watching, however he went from cowering in his crate 24/7 and only coming out when he was alone in a room to now not wanting to be in a crate and immediately leaving it (after we feed him for his alone time) to back to a public spot on the couch or bed!

The little dude has started willingly sleeping in bed with us and sitting on the couch. We knew something magical was happening when we spotted him starting to peek around the corners to observe what was happening outside of his designated room. From there it just grew.

In Mammoth the entire place had carpet which each dog loved because it meant they could run around with no issues and so when the little starting running up and down the stairs. Mr Kal decided he wanted to part of the pack and ran with them! He's also less resistant to being picked up and generally held, his heart rate has slowed down when he's being touched, and he generally seems less hyper-alert. He has also started cuddling with the other little dogs.

Outside is still his least favorite place, but we did share a moment when we went on a little run together outside, and he ran along side me, tongue hanging out.

Kalamazoo is a very, very good boy that's just a little afraid of the world. He's super smart, too! And while he won't go potty outside quite yet, and doesn't want people watching him, he does know where to go, and does so consistently. So for now, it's pee pads in our bathroom which works fine."

Check back for the next upate on how Kalamazoo is doing his Foster home!
