Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
We rescued Peoria from Riverside County Department of Animal Services on August 20th. She is 9 years old and weighs 47 lbs. Peoria is a very sweet, gentle girl, who does well in our play yards with other dogs and enjoys pets from our volunteers. She passed her cat test and was uninterested upon meeting two cats. When one of the cats sniffed her, Peoria returned the sniff, and they both moved on. She did not approach the other cat. Good girl!
Peoria enjoys going on our weekly FFF hikes and earns rave reviews from her hiking partners. One volunteer shared:
"Peoria is a great walker and was able to maintain a good pace for about 2.5 miles. She has excellent loose leash walking skills (see video) and was very sweet to all of the people and dogs we met. She even ignored all the dogs barking at her from their yards. Peoria has a beautiful, soft coat. She took treats gently from my hand, and she even sat for some treats."
Peoria went on a two-week Frosted Fling, so she could recover in the comfort of a home after having surgery. Her Fling Mom reports:
"Peoria is a perfect, sweet shadow dog. We were lucky to be chosen to give her a soft spot to recover from surgery. She had multiple massive mammary masses removed, as well as a spay. She ended up with a scar running from stem to stern with about 60 staples holding it together. She was a great patient and has healed nicely.
Peoria is gentle with everyone, giving kisses on arms, legs and hands. She does not kiss faces. In a large group, she wanders person to person, giving kisses and checking in. Peoria was eager to meet new dogs at the dog park and got along well with everyone.
Peoria is perfectly house-trained. She came to FFF significantly underweight and will eat anything. She is not at all aggressive around food, but has a hard time waiting patiently for others to finish their lazy eating. We solved this by giving Peoria a dental bone to chew on while other dogs finished their meals. She might benefit from a slow eater dish. We fed her 3 meals a day, each 1 1/2 cups of Kirkland lamb and rice kibble with water added in.
Peoria is very eager to please. She is very nervous about getting on the couch, so if you prefer your animals off the furniture, she's a good choice. If you prefer cuddling, like us, you may have to lift her up so she can settle in with you. Because she has been starved, she is not gentle taking treats. This is an area where she will benefit from some training.
Peoria is easy on a leash and will be able to take long walks and hikes. We were helping her recover from surgery, so didn't attempt long walks. I think Peoria will do well in just about any home. She is so grateful for good food and love. I think she could make a perfect host dog for someone who likes to foster, but she could also be happy as a member of your package or even as an only dog. She slept through the night on a dog bed next to our bed."
Peoria is ready to meet her forever family! Might that be you?
