Roswell entered Riverside County Animal Services as a stray. When she wasn't claimed, we scooped her up to become a Frosted Face on August 20th. She is 10 years old and weighs 66 lbs. Roswell is very sweet and affectionate, loves to cuddle and gives kisses. She does well with other dogs with proper introductions, too!
Sadly, our love bug has been diagnosed with liver and splenic cancer, as well as stage 2 kidney disease. We are looking for a very special family who will give Roswell the precious gift of a home for the rest of her life. Might it be you?
Roswell went on a two-week Frosted Fling to enjoy pampering in the comforts of home, and we learned a lot about her. Roswell's Fling Mom reports:
"Roswell is incredible with people. We didn't have a single problem with her meeting my friends or strangers on the sidewalks. She was more than happy to get pets from them.
At home, Roswell was incredibly mild-and calm. The first couple of days, she would take pillows off my couch or steal my shoes, but she stopped doing this on her own. We didn't have any destructive behavior in the home.
She quickly picks up on habits and routines. I would wipe her paws every time we came back from a walk. Initially, she would resist this but over a few days, this just became part of our routine and she allowed me to wipe her paws without any fuss. When we first started going on car rides, she wouldn't sit in one place and made me feel nervous about driving on freeways in case she jumped on me. However, by the end of our time together, she would just lie down and sleep peacefully in the passenger seat and I wouldn't have any nervousness about her.
She is incredibly sweet. She and I would sit on the couch as I did my work or watched TV. Otherwise, she would follow me around and plop down wherever I happened to be. She was both an active exercise companion and a lazy cuddle buddy. I am so grateful to her for the love the she gave. My own dog passed away recently, and Roswell's calm and sweet demeanor with me was so healing.
Roswell and I walked over an hour each day. We went out for 15 minutes in the morning, 45 - 50 minutes in the late afternoon, then 15 - 20 minutes at night. We mostly walked around my neighborhood. On the weekends we would go to different neighborhoods for long walks around the boardwalk/piers. She would slow down a little at the end of our long walks, but I think this was probably from her feeling hot. She would started to pant and have to stop in shade. Otherwise, she had great energy and kept up well with the activity level.
Roswell also learned to go down stairs. At first, she would resist walking down staircases and then first couple of times she tried to, she would slip and slide down a few steps. We started with short stairs and then moved onto longer staircases in my apartment building. Now she's a pro at going up and down stairs.
Roswell can be reactive towards other dogs. There are a lot of dogs that live in my neighborhood. Most of the time, she pulls on the leash, whines, and really wants to meet them. She would only bark at other dogs a handful of times. If we encountered dogs in my neighborhood, I would stop with her and allow them to pass, cross the street, or go around cars. These techniques prevented her from reacting significantly to other dogs and we were able to complete our neighborhood walks without any issues.
I would forget that Roswell is on hospice because she has so much life and love in her. She will make an excellent companion for a family."
Roswell currently lives in a foster home but is still available for adoption.
