My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

** $100 in pledges to the rescue that pulls **

Oklahoma ACCT-A-172139 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Oklahoma must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER, ADOPTER by Wednesday, September 18th at 10 A.M. Should Oklahoma's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Oklahoma is a gentle, shy soul who was found as a stray by animal protection officers on August 20th. While she may start off a bit timid, with a little patience and a soft approach, she quickly warms up and reveals her affectionate side.

Once she trusts you, Oklahoma will approach with soft, curious eyes and a wagging tail, leaning in for pets and even kicking her leg adorably as if asking for more love. Though she's still learning to trust new environments, she loves exploring and going on walks.

Oklahoma may be shy around new faces, but she enjoys meeting other dogs, as seen when she happily greeted a few during her walks. She prefers taking her time to get to know her surroundings and people, but once she does, she blossoms into a loving, loyal companion.

This sweet girl just needs someone who will let her take things at her own pace and show her the love she deserves. Could you be the one to help Oklahoma come out of her shell?

Behavior Notes:
Per volunteer 9/8: Met Oklahoma for the first time today. From the minute I leashed her up she was ready to go! We ran a few miles together and also spent some time sitting in the shade together sharing affection. She loves pets and treats and was a dream on her leash! Anyone would be lucky to welcome this sweet potato into their lives!

Per volunteer 8/27: This gal may start off a bit shy, but with a gentle approach, she quickly blossoms into a sweet and affectionate friend. Give her a moment to explore, and you'll soon see her come out of her shell!

With a little patience, Oklahoma will approach you with soft eyes and a wagging tail, ready for some gentle pets. She might even lean in, kicking her leg like she's got an itch that just won't quit-it's her adorable way of asking for more love! While she's not too interested in treats right now, she's sure to warm up to them once she feels comfortable in her new home.

Per staff 8/23: I had Oklahoma for some time outside today. She loves walking and exploring. She takes a little while to warm up, but is happy to do her own thing. Oklahoma can be strong on her leash when she wants to get somewhere new to smell then relaxes as she takes everything in. She walked along with a male dog and did well. She choose to approach a female dog on the other side of the fence to say hi.

Per staff 8/21: KENNEL PRESENTATION: Oklahoma was lying on her bed when I approached with wide nervous eyes. She remained lying on her bed as I opened the kennel and sniffed the leash. She allowed me to place it over her head easily without issue and once secured she exited easily. No issues returning.

LEASH SKILLS: Pulled minimally .
HANDLING:
When we got to the yard Oklahoma was nervous with a tucked tail and wide soft eyes. I knelt down and gave her some space. She explored the yard and then approached me from behind sniffing me with soft eyes. She allowed me to pet her head and sides, but did flinch at first. She needs a gentle approach and warmed up quickly when going at her pace. She leaned in as I pet her sides and would start to kick her leg, seeming itchy. She had no interest in treats while outside.
PLAY:No interest
TOYS: No interest

Per staff 8/20: dog appears scared and wary of strangers. was able to place in truck without muzzle.

Medical Notes:
URI 8/23: This dog has been observed to have shelter acquired upper respiratory infection (URI), or a "doggy cold". They have been started on medication, and will be monitored for resolution of the respiratory infection.

Intake 8/21:
Eyes - clear
Ears - clean
Nose - clear
Mouth/Teeth/Gums -unable due to behavior
Coat & Skin - a line on back with hair loss
Urogenital - intact female
Gait/Mobility - no lameness
Attitude: fearful bar
