Age: 7 years (as of 6/10/24)
Weight: 29 pounds (as of 8/18/24)
Location: RI
Mama Tread is a sweet, unassuming lady. She is the perfect houseguest, making no mess and demanding very little. Mama likes all gentle people - men and women alike - and would prefer to have humans who are home more than not. She likes to be in the same room or near her humans, and is happy to be on a dog bed in the corner or on a raised window seat.
She takes a few days to settle in and then likes being gently pet/brushed, as well as neck scratches. Once she has her bearings, she will show affection towards you by gently pawing at you for pets, and also quietly crawling up into the bed at night when you have settled. She is crate trained, but prefers to be out of the crate, sleeping on dog beds, the sofa, or the bed if allowed. She can be left unattended and does not get into things, destroy things or have accidents. She enjoys a good chew every now and then, and takes yummy treats eagerly but gently. She LOVES going for walks - short or long - city, suburban or nature! She rides quietly in the car, but can be a little anxious and timid when visiting new places.
In the south, Mama lived in a very busy household with dogs, cats, small animals and children and did well. Given her gentle and wallflower nature, however, we think she would do best in a quiet home with predictability and not a lot of demands on her; anyone/thing overbearing would seem unfair to her. She is sweet with everyone, but she is not overly affectionate and can even seem uncomfortable with too much affection and attention. She will definitely seek out affection, though, in her own unassuming way.
Mama is a low energy dog, and is content to spend some time outside in the yard when her humans are there, and then to return inside when they do. Mama is quiet except when her human reappears after an absence, and then she makes excited softish hoarse barks and body spins. Mama seems to be mainly a co-exister with other dogs, prefering other co-existers. She can be a little uncomfortable meeting new dogs, especially hyper or overbearing ones, and intros go well when s low and respectful. In the south she lived with cats and chickens, and she tended to ignore them.
We recommend training with all of our dogs, and with Mama this will help build her confidence, as well as your bond!
Mama will make a perfect match for someone looking for a low energy house companion, who will cherish her unassuming sweetness, and spoil her at her pace.
Mama Tread's Backstory: Mama showed up as a stray one day with Lily and Louie Locket, two older puppies who have already found their forever homes through SOS; now it's Mama's turn!
