Chinook the Shepsky came to us well traveled: He was born in the Westbank, Palestine, as a stray but luckily was taken into the Bethlehem Animal Shelter from which he was adopted to Quebec City, Canada but this adopters quickly learnt that he is not an ideal dog for a small basement apartment where he is left locked up all day. They wanted to surrender him to the local public shelter, but before they could do that, European friends of mine working in Animal Welfare and who have done rescue missions at the Bethlehem Shelter, connected with us and organized a volunteer transport to us on his 1st birthday.
Chinook has the energy of a husky and the smarts of a shepherd so he is looking for an active home. He LOVES people and especially children; he an amazing dog, very very sweet and a total snuggle bug, he's a total leaner and has yet to meet a stranger, but he does need outlets for his energy. He'd make a wonderful running, hiking or trail riding partner. He's gotten used to chickens, ducks, goats and horses but still needs supervision around cats. He loves and gets along really well with dogs! He's actually never been an only dog and does show signs of anxiety when he's left inside the house by himself (which only ever happens by accident). Therefore he must be adopted to have a canine friend, and ideally he'd be adopted together with his BFF Enzo.
He doesn't need a yard if his new home will provide him the much needed exercise; he also doesn't necessarily need a fence as long as the property is big enough for him to roam without getting in trouble. Here at the rescue ranch he keeps our property free of predators and has evicted all coyotes, while he roams our property he never runs away and always stays closeby. We walk him off leash and again he roams but doesn't run away and will always come right back.
