My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Most of you may already know me, my name is Honey!  I’m a pretty big deal around Needy Paws, quite well known!  I came up from southern Missouri with my ten puppies. Unfortunately I became very, very sick and almost lost my life!

I’m a mature girl, and far too old to be a momma.  I would definitely be more aged as a grandma.  The vet says I’m probably 10 years old, and have had a hard life.  You can say that again, 10 babies at 10 years old, is hard on the body!  I developed gangrene mastitis after suffering from a heat stroke, I was so ill I could no longer move!   With a great medical team, and the TLC from my foster momma, I have made a full recovery! I lost most of my mammary glands and my belly now looks like a road map, but what a story to tell with my scars!

I am told I’m the perfect dog!  Despite being in incredible pain, I rolled with flow, Daily bandage changes and trips to the vet!   I am quite spoiled and my foster mom says only the best for me!  I learned how great McDonalds cheeseburgers tasted after our vet visits!  I enjoy riding in the car!  I do not know a stranger- I soak up all the love and pets from everyone!  I like my dog friends I’ve made!  I enjoy going for walks when it’s not blazing hot.  I sleep in my foster moms bed most of the time and love to cuddle! I have incredible house manners and never potty in the house.

My foster momma says this is a bittersweet time for her!  Exciting that I made a full recovery and have a zest for life, yet she and I are thick as thieves!  She told me I deserve to be the queen of a castle and get an opportunity to be someone’s number 1!

More about this rescue

Needy Paws Rescue, located in St. Louis, MO, is devoted to saving animals in need, whose lives are in danger at high kill animal shelters & animal controls, those who are strays, have been abandoned or whose family has faced an extreme emergency, regardless of their size or breed.

Our organization is made up of Volunteers who have been involved in various animal rescues in the St. Louis area and we plan to use our knowledge & experience to make a difference. We believe spaying & neutering is a very important step in keeping pets healthy & happy, plus it helps decrease overpopulation. All of our rescued animals will be spayed or neutered, they will be microchipped to ensure they are identifiable if lost or stolen and they will be current on all of their vaccinations before going to their Forever Homes.

We are foster-based and all pets stay in approved Foster Homes that have passed inspections, reference checks and are qualified to take care of our rescued animals while they wait for their Forever Family. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will be making home visits and conducting veterinarian checks & reference checks to ensure the pets will have a safe, loving, happy home. Forever Families will be taught how to care for their pet and learn how to get the most out of their relationship with their new family member. We also have an after-care specialist who will be in contact with the families after the adoption to see how well they're doing together
