My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Considering adopting? The first step is to complete our online Adoption Application at http://forgetmenotshelter.org/Application
Please do not call the shelter; do the application first.

Introducing Buck, a big ol' goofy puppy born around 3/1/24. His owner surrendered him due to no fault of Buck's, and asked us to find him a terrific new family.

At 5 months old, Buck weighs about 45-50 pounds, and will likely grow considerably bigger (maybe even 100 pounds?!). His prior owner described him as a Rottweiler mix, and we think we see some Catahoula or something similar in there too.

Staff and volunteers love Buck, and describe him as super sweet and "galumphy" - he loves people and other dogs and has no idea that his bounding around like a pinball might actually bowl over small (and medium-sized) children, so while he is a lovebug, we're recommending double-digit ages for any kids in the family.

Prior owner reports he will chase kitties if they run, but just as a game - without prey intent. If you have a confident cat, Buck should be just fine. For shy kitties, he would be a nightmare (ha).

His housetraining continues to improve daily. He'll need some refresher training in his new home, to get used to communicating with the people and to learn the new routines, and should pick it up very quickly. He does GREAT during the daytime, but the long overnight period is still just a little too much for him.

Something about Buck at this stage of life reminds us of a gangly-legged foal; scoop him up now, shower him with love and training, and watch him turn into the dog-equivalent of a magnificent stallion before your eyes!

All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Buck is a suggested minimum of $150 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts.

Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to the Seattle area, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!

Additional adoption info

Our minimum adoption donations are indicated on each pet's listing.

The first step toward adoption is to fill out the application, which we can email to you or you can find on our website:

http://forgetmenotshelter.org/Application

Filling out the application in no way commits you to adopting - it simply enables us to get you preapproved, in case you decide you want to adopt. If you are then approved and offered a pet placement, you may always refuse the placement. If you accept a placement, we always give you three days (for puppies and kittens) or thirty days (for adult dogs and cats) to live with each other; if during that time you decide that your new pet simply won't work out, for any reason, we will accept the pet back with a full refund of your adoption donation. You could either return the pet directly to us, or have it picked up on our next transport! I must say, we are very proud of our successful placement record - we really work hard to make sure you and your pet will be a great match.

If you are out of our immediate area, we ask that you email some photos of your home, yard (including fence if you have one), any "animal-specific" areas (such as a dog run, cat tree, or sleeping area) and any other pets you currently own. Sometimes photos enable us to skip the pre-adoption home visit, which can speed things up considerably for out of area adoptions! For the vet reference, either a vet who is seeing your current pets, or a vet who saw a former pet, is acceptable. If this is your first pet ever, congratulations on joining the pet world! :-D We will consider your application without a vet reference, but we would like to know what vet you think you will use for your pet. Without a vet reference, please be sure to provide at least two strong personal references who would know how you are with animals.

If we have an upcoming transport scheduled to your area, we will make every effort to process and approve your application in time for the transport.

Go meet their pets
