My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, my name is Sigrid, I am a senior dog who knows what I am looking for in a forever home. I will be an open book from the start! You will know important things like my full-grown size, personality, and ideal lifestyle. I need a home without young children or small dogs as I may be too much for them, I would enjoy a more low-key lifestyle to live out my golden years!

Sigrid is currently living in one of our wonderful foster homes. Adopting from foster is easy! Please email adoptions@hshv.org or call (734)662-5585 to arrange a meeting today!

Sigrids foster says `Siggy has been living in a relatively quiet home, with adult children coming and going, and mostly adult visitors. She lives with a dog savvy cat, they aren`t `friends` but they live peacefully side by side. In general, she`s a medium energy dog but she still gets the zoomies in small bursts. She can play a little rough, using her paws to pounce and smack things down, so I wouldn`t recommend her being with little dogs or children. Siggy is a very good dog! She just loves to be with people, will follow you around the house and is happy to just lay at your feet. She`s very well behaved in the house, doesn`t try to get on the furniture or go upstairs, and she has the run of our house when we`re gone but you will want to protect your garbage and don`t leave food on the counters, where her mouth can reach!`

Additional adoption info

Thank you for considering adopting and saving a life! Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge you need to adopt while making the process a positive experience, so here are some things to know:

+ You must be 18 years of age or older to adopt at HSHV. We welcome all--from any county or state!

+ Prior to visiting an animal, you must complete an application. You can do this at the shelter, or save time by bringing a completed one with you by downloading it from our website at www.hshv.org/howtoadopt.

+ Some animals have special adoption requirements.

+ Adoptions are first-come, first served and holds are limited to one 24-hour hold per family.

+ Please allow at least an hour if you plan on adopting. Bring your driver's license or other government-issued ID with proof of address, a copy of your lease (if it applies) and vaccination records for current pets.

+ Applications are accepted up until 15 minutes prior to closing.

+ Most adoptions are same-day, you'll take home your new friend!

When our animals go home, they've received an initial health check and have been:
+ Spayed/Neutered
+ Microchipped
+ Current on vaccinations (as appropriate to their age)
+ Dewormed
+ Feline Leukemia tested (kittens and cats)
+ Heartworm tested (adult dogs)
+ Temperament tested (adult dogs)
