My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Caraxes and Sunfyre are two spirited young boys who are undergoing the training regime from “How to Train Your Dragon.” They and 3 additional siblings came to us terrified after their mother was killed by a car (a sadly all too common occurrence in this line of work). They are still in the middle of their socialization journey, with the help of Churu, Temptations, and plenty of toys, but they make progress every day.

Never has there been a toy that hasn’t caught the attention of Caraxes, the brown tabby. He does like Temptations and Churu but his natural curiosity and playfulness are the keys to heart. Sunfyre, a lanky brown tabby with white, is a little more mellow (for a kitten) than Caraxes. Sunfyre does enjoy playing, especially with his brother, but he is perfectly content to curl up in a comfortable spot and take long naps all day long, unless you have Churu, in which case, he might consider approaching you.

Both boys are good eaters and use the litter box perfectly. They have always kept their coats impeccable and allow nail trimming and medicating with only a touch of drama. Interestingly, they absolutely adore lap time once they are situated despite ample protests. For all their reluctance to let go of their growling and hissing, they have never bitten or scratched, even in their earliest days with us. They are very intrigued by the resident cats at their foster home so would do very well with additional cats.

Caraxes and Sunfyre are sure to continue evolving into their final form as perfect housecats. They would love a home with patient adopters who are willing to spend a lot of time playing and handling them and reminding them what it means to be loved by humans.

Please note that they may not yet be spayed/neutered.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
