My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Beans, an extra-large mix breed with a big heart that just needs a little extra time to trust. Beans is shy and nervous, especially around new people, and he can be particularly fearful of men at first. He's also a bit head shy, so he needs a gentle approach when it comes to handling.

~ Beans is still learning his basic manners-he can be jumpy, mouthy, and strong on the leash. Because of this, he's looking for a home that's committed to his ongoing training and understanding of his needs, his adopters must sign him up for 1 in person positive reinforcement training session or a Goodpup Scholarship. Beans does have some separation anxiety, so a family that can provide him with consistency and patience will help him feel secure.
~ Due to his size and his nervousness when meeting new people abruptly, Beans would not be well-suited to an apartment setting. He would thrive best in a home with older or teenage children who can understand his needs and give him the space and time to build his confidence.

If you're ready to invest in a loving companion and help Beans become the best version of himself, he could be the perfect addition to your family.

Explanation of Behaviours:
- A very active dog that will need plenty of exercise, training, stimulation and enrichment daily to set him up for success.
- He has shown to be nervous and fearful of new people, in new situations and in new environments. His new family will need to work with him on slowly and properly desensitizing him to the world around him as well as with meeting new people.
- He has shown to be shy & nervous to people out of fear, discomfort and frustration. He specifically has shown this while in his kennel through a barrier.
- Once Beans is comfortable with somebody he can become very jump and mouthy during play and when excited.
- Beans has shown to have some sound sensitivity.
- Beans can be touch sensitive especially with new people. He will need slow and proper training working on desensitizing him to touch and needs slow introductions to people.

This dog would benefit from:
- Active home
- A home of older/teenaged children
- No apartments
- Lots of training and socialization
- Lots of time and attention
- A patient family

Additional adoption info

Come into the Centre and if you see a pet you like, you are able to do a "Meet and Greet" with that pet. Spend some time in alone with the pet or take a dog out for a short walk. If you are still interested in adopting the pet you can meet with one of our Adoption Counsellors who will have you fill out and application and will ask you some questions about the environment in which you live. If you seem like a wonderful match and your envirnoment meets the needs of the pet then your application should be approved!
