My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Makana was brought in by her previous owner on August 15, 2024

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Makana, a pretty girl ready to be your perfect walking buddy! In her previous home, she was house-trained and leash-trained, so most of the work is already done for you! Makana loved spending time indoors with her family, especially curling up on the couch for a cozy movie night. While she takes some time to warm up to new people and situations, a patient family will be rewarded with her loyal companionship. Makana came in with her friend Halia (AID 913690) and they would love to go home together. Ready to open your heart and home? Bring a leash, collar, and take them home today!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
