My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Wally

Sex: Male

Color: Gray & white

Eye Color: Brown

Birthday: 07/18/22

Weight: 46 lbs

Large Dog Friendly: Yes

Small Dog Friendly: Unknown

Cat Friendly: Unknown

Crate Trained: Yes but protests loudly when you leave for 15-30 minutes before he's great the rest of the time you're gone. He sleeps in one at night without issues.

Housebroken: Yes

Energy Level: Medium

Reaction to New People: Friendly

Kid Friendly: Unknown. His foster family does not have kids but have observed nothing to indicate that he shouldn't be in a family with children.

Training: Knows sit, shake, down, come, has B- leash skills, and is working on leave it and stay.

Grooming Needs: Wally has a standard husky coat which will require regular thorough brushing. You should aim for once a week or so, and more when he is blowing his coat, typically twice a year.

Fence: Fence or tie-out will work fine.

Solo or Siblings: Wally would do fine with siblings (preferably female) or as an only dog.

From the Foster: Wally came to AAHMN from animal control after he was found running loose. It doesn't sound like his previous home was a good one, but that didn't bring Wally down. He is the sweetest boy and loves people! Unless he's snoozing he wants to follow you around so he can always be close by. If you let him, he will wiggle his way into your lap to get as close as possible for all the snuggles. Combine that attention with treats and he will never leave your side! This boy is VERY food motivated and makes sure to announce mealtimes for everyone to hear. He has quite a loud bark, so an apartment or similar housing with shared walls would not work for Wally. He is currently living with two fur siblings (one male and one female) and is now getting along pretty well with both of them. It took a couple weeks for him and the male to figure each other out, but they can now go on walks together, play, and nap near each other without issues. We think Wally will make a great addition to his new family and are excited for him to find his forever home. He deserves it!

Medical: Wally tested positive for Lyme disease on 07/19/24. He completed one month of doxycycline as preventative antibiotic treatment. Additional bloodwork indicated no significant issues. No further treatment is needed at this time but he may continue to test positive for Lyme in the future.

Adoption fee: $400

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Step 1 – Application:
Please begin the adoption process by completely filling out our online application. We’d like to get to know you and find out what interests you in Siberian Huskies! We cut no corners when it comes to finding the right owner for each dog, please keep in mind that the total process can take a few weeks to complete. Typically you can expect to hear from an Application Coordinator within 72 hours of completing your application, but this could vary based on our volume. Make sure to check your email, including your junk/spam folder, if we have any questions based on your application we will follow up with the email you provided. Applicants must be 21 years of age.

Step 2 – Reference Checks:
After we review your application, we will begin the reference and vet check process. Difficulty reaching references is the step that delays the process the most, so please make sure to let your references know we will be calling them.

Step 3 – Home Visit:
One of our volunteers will be reaching out to you to schedule a home visit. During this home interview we would like to meet with all members of the household, so please make sure everyone will be home. The home visit is an opportunity for us to help you understand the breed and their specific characteristics, make sure your home is secure and safe for a Siberian Husky, and answer any questions you might have for us about the breed. This will also help us determine which Siberian Husky is a good fit for your family.

Once this step is completed your application, reference checks, and home visit file will be submitted to our Adoption Committee. Typically an Adoption Coordinator will follow up with you within a week of your home visit to provide an update on your status. Please be patient during this process as the volunteer who completes your home visit will need time to document their visit, and our Adoption Committee will need to review your entire application.

Step 4 – Meet the Dogs:
Once you have been approved for adoption you will be able to meet the available foster dogs. All of our dogs are housed in our network of foster homes around Minnesota. A Foster Coordinator will reach out to you to determine which dogs are a fit for your family, and help you schedule meet and greets for those you are interested in. You and your family, including any current pets, must be willing to drive to meet any specific dog you are interested in. If you don’t find the perfect fit right away, we will keep your application active on file.

Step 5 – Completing the Adoption
Once you’ve found the perfect new family member, and their foster home feels the same, we will meet with you to complete the Adoption Contract, and go over the dog’s likes/dislikes, behaviors, and any specific needs. At that time you will be able to bring your new family member home!

Our Adoption Fees are:
Age 0-1 year – $400
Age 1-3 years – $350
Age 3-6 years – $300
Age 6+ years – $250
**The State of Minnesota requires sales tax on all pet adoptions, this is included in our adoption fees listed**

All Adopt A Husky Minnesota dogs are:
Spayed or neutered before adoption
Evaluated for temperament and trainability
Up to date on rabies, distemper and bordetella, Heartworm tested and on preventative year round
Microchipped

Before applying, consider the following:
Are all household members in agreement about adopting a Siberian Husky and willing to participate in a home visit?
Are your current pets neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and current on heartworm testing and hw preventative?
Are you ready to adopt within the next few weeks?
Are your vet and personal references aware that they will be receiving a phone call from us?
Adopt A Husky Minnesota will not place dogs outside of its geographic area. We will accept applications from ND, SD, IA, and WI, but cannot guarantee to adopt to bordering states.

Visit www.siberianrescue.com to find a rescue in your area if you are not in Minnesota or one of our bordering states.

Important:
Please be aware that we do not hold dogs for applicants while they go through the adoption process. We urge you not to set your sights on just one dog, as there may be someone further along in the process interested in that same dog. If that home is determined to be a good match, the dog will be adopted to them. We cannot discuss specific dogs until a home is approved.

Keep in mind that Adopt A Husky Minnesota is 100% operated by volunteers, please be patient as we work to help you find your next family member. We promise, they’re worth the wait!

Our top priority is always the dogs! We take great pride in the homes in which we entrust with our dogs and that their next home will truly be their forever home. Therefore, we ask that you understand and respect our adoption process.

More about this rescue

Adopt A Husky Minnesota is a Siberian Husky rescue organization which was formed by a group of hardworking volunteers committed to saving the lives of unwanted dogs and puppies both locally and across the Midwest.

In 2017 we found that our rescue was growing at a rapid rate, both in the number of volunteers signing up as well as the number requests asking for help. We split off from our Sister Rescue, Adopt A Husky, Inc., in Illinois, to form what is known today as Adopt A Husky Minnesota.

Our dream is to educate the general public about this beautiful breed and provide care for the multitude of homeless huskies that have found themselves in the shelter system. We know that animals play a unique and important role in completing families which is why we believe our huskies deserve a second chance to become part of a forever family.
