My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Adoption visits are by appointment only** If you see an animal you're interested in, fill out an adoption questionnaire on our website https://everettwa.gov/161/Adopt-a-Pet

Maple is a comedic ball of energy!!! This little firecracker is always ready to GO and is the life of the party. She LOVES to play with people and dogs alike. Maple spent some time in foster with a dog trainer and this what we have learned..."Maple would do best in a home with someone who is an experienced trainer and/or someone who is willing to work with an experienced trainer. I think she has the temperament to be a service dog. She's not worried about anything and she is very easy to reinforce. I only mention an experienced trainer because she is a LOT of dog and would need more outlets than just service work especially during adolescence. I also think that for a committed beginner trainer she could be an awesome running buddy or first time sport dog. She just oozes trainability. She picked up nosework basics in 2 sessions and is now working on paired odor. Some things we've noticed:
1) she loves barking, probably wouldn't be great for an apartment
2) she alert barks when she hears people out in the hall. Shes easily redirected but she like to be heard
3) she's an awesome running buddy. She's still a baby so I let her pick the pace and we jog/walked through the woods. If anything I was holding her back so she wouldn't overdo it.
4) she's honestly a lot more chill when our resident dog isn't around. He and I went on an outing last weekend and apparently she was night and day more calm so it seems like placing her with another dog may just be too over stimulating for her.
5) she has insane prey drive. I would not recommend she live with cats or tiny dogs she will hunt squirrels with intent on her long line.
6) she learns super fast. She's been picking up skills right and left.
7) we've been playing nosework and tracking almost every day and she has picked up the game super fast. I think that it will be important to get her into a home where she gets to keep playing a sport. She could really excel at anything. If not a dog specific sport at least a home that will take her running and hiking."

Maple went out with Wandering Rovers and they said "We went to the farmers market, the Ebey Slough Trail, a dog bakery and to lunch! She met many new human friends!
She was great in the car! She definitely loves people. Three people even expressed interest in her! "

Maple weighs 40 pounds.

ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT

Our shelter is currently closed for general animal viewing, but we’ve still got awesome dogs, cats and other critters waiting for new families to come and adopt them. To help keep our staff, volunteers and community healthy, we are now providing adoptions by appointment. This enables us to comply with social distancing guidelines while still finding loving homes for the pets in our care.

How does this work?

First, check out our available animals online. If you see an animal you’re interested in, visit our website (www.everettwa.gov/161/Adopt-a-Pet) to complete an online adoption application.

Our staff will review your application and contact you to discuss the adoption. Please note that we receive many applications, and it may take up to a week before you are contacted.

Adoption appointments are set up using strict social distancing protocols, and many transactions are processed ‘curbside’ outdoors. Our staff will go over appointment details when they speak with you.

Renters bring rental pet policy at time of adoption. Not having the rental pet policy available may delay or nullify an adoption.

Animals are usually able to go home right away, so be prepared for your new pet to leave with you.
