Here's what the humans have to say about me:
9/9/2024: The vet gave Kiefer the all clear on the ringworm so he is ready to find his forever home!
Kiefer came into rescue with three other dogs,,his brothers, Tiefer and Tofu, and a long haired chihuahua female, Buttons. Sadly, Tiefer contracted parvo and did not survive despite getting him to the vet. We immediately took the remaining three to the vet where they received a parvo shot. We put them under a 2 week quarantine and that was lifted as of 8/3. All three survived so we scheduled spays and neutered. Unfortunately, we lost Buttons during her spay when it was discovered that she had a tumor the size of an orange engulfing and attached to her internal organs and an enlarged liver. The vet recommended euthanized her while she was under anesthesia since her condition was not treatable. The sole survivors of their rough start were Tofu and Kiefer, who are both doing well despite being diagnosed now with ringworm. They are being treated with ketaconazole but are able to be adopted as long as the adopter continues treating them and is able to keep them away from other pets and children as ringworm is contagious but easily treated.
The boys are really happy, friendly little pups who thrive on attention! They are really playful and boy do they love their food! For such little guys, they both have hearty appetites! Since they are still pups, they will need to be housebroken and crate trained. They will need to learn how to be the best dogs that they can be with your guidance. They have never been on a leash but should learn quickly as they seem very eager to please. They have experienced a lot of loss in their early lives so they will probably bond hard to those they love. They are already really social puppies but it doesn't hurt to keep them that way by getting them out and about (after they finish treatment for the ringworm,of course). They should fit easily into any home environment and family situation although, I would be cautious with very small children and children who tend to play rough since the boys are quite small and could be easily hurt. Kiefer saw the vet on 8/14/24 and had a clear fecal. He was diagnosed with ringworm which he has started treatment for. He is too young for a heartworm test but has started on Simparica Trio, a heartworm prevention and flea control. Overall, he is a healthy boy. He weighed 5.7 pounds as of 8/14/24 and will remain small.
If interested in giving Kiefer his forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Kiefer's adoption fee will be $300 to help cover the cost of his vetting and daily care while with us. We will only consider applicants who complete the adoption application and will determine whether the applicant would be a good fit for Kiefer based on the info provided in the application. If we feel that you will be a good match for him, we will set up a meet and greet appointment with you.
