My name is Mocha!

I am so relieved that the interviewer lady (IL) visited me today. She may be able to make people understand me. I am an 8-year-old female kitty who never learned to become sociable. I lived with my last owner for four years, but they surrendered me to HSHC because I was terrified of everything! The other cat, the dog, the children, and even the adults frightened me into hiding. When I'm scared, hiding is the best solution. But it means that I don't get to enjoy being a beloved pet. Stress is the enemy of a cat's health and well-being. It can cause very painful UTIs. Since coming to the shelter, I have been allowed to stay curled up in my Kasa and take my time coming out of my shell. I often sleep all day. Today, the IL spoke quietly, and I let her touch my cheek. It was so pleasurable I let her pet me all over. I stood up in my Kasa so she could reach more spots and purred to myself. I contorted my body into so many positions but didn't take a step out of my Kasa. I had not touched any of the three bowls of food. You could call me the biggest scaredy-cat of the century! But this is NOT what I want! I want to be relaxed and confident when I am with people. I want to learn to be social and outgoing. This will take a patient person who understands my fears and will give me the time and space to settle in. A quiet home, where everyone is 10 or older, is a must. I would appreciate being the only 4-legged family member, at least for a while. The IL knows that I crave affection and attention. Now, I need to find an owner to help me become the cat I want to be. 8-28-24
