My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mocha
I am so relieved that the interviewer lady (IL) visited me today. She may be able to make people understand me. I am an 8-year-old female kitty who never learned to become sociable. I lived with my last owner for four years, but they surrendered me to HSHC because I was terrified of everything! The other cat, the dog, the children, and even the adults frightened me into hiding. When I`m scared, hiding is the best solution. But it means that I don`t get to enjoy being a beloved pet. Stress is the enemy of a cat`s health and well-being. It can cause very painful UTIs. Since coming to the shelter, I have been allowed to stay curled up in my Kasa and take my time coming out of my shell. I often sleep all day. Today, the IL spoke quietly, and I let her touch my cheek. It was so pleasurable I let her pet me all over. I stood up in my Kasa so she could reach more spots and purred to myself. I contorted my body into so many positions but didn`t take a step out of my Kasa. I had not touched any of the three bowls of food. You could call me the biggest scaredy-cat of the century! But this is NOT what I want! I want to be relaxed and confident when I am with people. I want to learn to be social and outgoing. This will take a patient person who understands my fears and will give me the time and space to settle in. A quiet home, where everyone is 10 or older, is a must. I would appreciate being the only 4-legged family member, at least for a while. The IL knows that I crave affection and attention. Now, I need to find an owner to help me become the cat I want to be. 8-28-24

More about this shelter

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.

This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
