Hi! My name is Pinto. I'm an outgoing, happy girl who wants nothing more than to give you kisses and take you for long walks. I love everyone I meet, including small children. I'm very patient while they hug and love on me. My favorite activities are rolling in the grass and taking in all the sites and smells on a walk through the neighborhood. I walk well on my leash but will lunge if a rabbit crosses my path or another dog gets too close. It is unknown if I like cats. I'm not phased by loud noises such as fireworks or garbage trucks. I am a great watchdog, though. I can patrol a couch as good as the next dog! I'm also good at communicating with a bark when I need to potty or if it's dinner time. I know how to "sit," stay," "come," "off," and "leave it." I love treats, especially string cheese and meaty treats! I didn't chew on anything inappropriate in my foster home. In fact, I didn't chew on anything at all! I've been raising puppies for a while now but the motherhood phase of my life is finally over. Phew! I'm ready to enjoy a life of leisure, sharing my affection with hugs and kisses, snuggling up next to you and walking by your side.
Pinto has heartworm which means that this dog has parasitic worms in the right ventricle of the heart and nearby blood vessels. Heartworm is transmitted from one dog to another by mosquitoes and can be easily prevented using monthly heartworm preventative, but once the disease is contracted the treatment process can be quite intensive. Pinto will need to remain sedentary with minimal activity during the treatment process to ensure a healthy recovery. Thank you for considering adopting and saving a life! Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge you need to adopt while making the process a positive experience, so here are some things to know:
+ You must be 18 years of age or older to adopt at HSHV. We welcome all--from any county or state!
+ Prior to visiting an animal, you must complete an application. You can do this at the shelter, or save time by bringing a completed one with you by downloading it from our website at www.hshv.org/howtoadopt.
+ Some animals have special adoption requirements.
+ Adoptions are first-come, first served and holds are limited to one 24-hour hold per family.
+ Please allow at least an hour if you plan on adopting. Bring your driver's license or other government-issued ID with proof of address, a copy of your lease (if it applies) and vaccination records for current pets.
+ Applications are accepted up until 15 minutes prior to closing.
+ Most adoptions are same-day, you'll take home your new friend!
When our animals go home, they've received an initial health check and have been:
+ Spayed/Neutered
+ Microchipped
+ Current on vaccinations (as appropriate to their age)
+ Dewormed
+ Feline Leukemia tested (kittens and cats)
+ Heartworm tested (adult dogs)
+ Temperament tested (adult dogs)
