My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Those ears … sooo cute!

Meet Fern! Fern (an orphan now part of our Crayola litter) is in a foster home in Spokane, WA and can be transported to your area (see information in the “Adoption from Path of Hope Rescue” section below).

Fern is an adorable, young black and tan shepherd mix puppy with soulful eyes and the softest fur. And those ears … can we talk about those ears? Her funny ears have a personality all their own and frame her sweet little face. This little girl is just a charmer. We expect Fern to be in the 40-60 lb. range when fully grown.

Spunky and smart, Fern is a medium energy puppy who loves to fetch and enjoys figuring out puzzles and snuffle mats. If there is food involved, you have Fern’s attention! When she isn’t chasing balls or searching for kibble, lovely Fern enjoys playing with other dogs and spending time with her people (adults and children) and is good with cats, too. Affectionate and sweet, she loves to give kisses and snuggle up to you. Fern deeply appreciates ear and belly rubs. And after a good play session, this charming girl naps hard!

Fern is starting on her training. She sleeps through the night, and she is crate trained; she sees it as a safe place to settle down when she needs some rest or a quiet chew. Fern is progressing well through potty training and has begun leash and obedience training.

Fern’s ideal home? This sweet natured puppy loves everything and everyone. An active home where she would get plenty of exercise would be delightful. People to love who love her in return, possibly a dog sibling for romps, lots of fetch games and puzzles, and wonderful snuggles would make her the happiest pup ever. Does this sound like your home?

What is Path of Hope’s Adoption Process?

Our adoption process takes on average 7-10 days.

  1. Begin by completing the online application. EVERY application receives an email response from us (check your spam folder!).

  1. Your personal Matchmaker will contact you, help you find your perfect pup match, and guide you through the process.

  1. Meet your potential pup at the home of the foster family. (The process may differ slightly for long distance adopters.)

  1. Bring your potential pup home for a no commitment In Home Trial. In Home Trials are a minimum of (2) nights for a puppy and one week for an adult. Your Matchmaker will check in with you during this time.

  1. Sign the adoption paperwork and adopt your new family member!

Adopting from Path of Hope Rescue

  • Our adoption process sets us apart. We specialize in learning about you and your family to find just the right fit for you. Our Matchmakers are not only good at what they do; they will also guide you through the entire process.

  • Our Minimum Adoption Donation is $550 for puppies under a year and $450 for dogs one year and older. We are a WA state registered non-profit and rely heavily on adoption donations to cover the expenses associated with saving lives. Our dogs are spayed/neutered prior to adoption; microchipped with free lifetime registration; and up to date on DAPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines (when age appropriate) and deworming and heartworm treatment/prevention. Adopters can also earn a $100 training refund if they attend (6) hours of any in person training course.

  • Long Distance adopters (one hour or more from Spokane) may choose to travel to Spokane to pick up their dog or use our monthly transport option, Puppy Delivery Express, for an additional delivery donation of $250.  Puppy Delivery Express currently delivers dogs throughout Washington and to parts of Montana, Idaho, and Oregon.

About Path of Hope Rescue

  • At Path of Hope Rescue, our goal is to make EVERY DOG. WANTED. Our two employees and army of volunteers focus on transporting pregnant dogs and puppies from Texas, the number one kill state in America. The dogs we rescue are in poor living conditions and on euthanasia lists in shelters that are inundated with unwanted animals. We want to give these dogs a chance and bring them to the Pacific Northwest to find adoptive, loving homes.

  • We are 100% foster based; our dogs are fostered in loving homes where they are house and crate trained and learn basic obedience and leash skills. Dogs experience socialization opportunities with people, places, and other animals, and they receive the attention required to become well-rounded, healthy, and affectionate dogs that they would not otherwise receive in a shelter environment.

  • Our commitment does not end when the dog is adopted. Path of Hope offers post adoption owner support including information on making the dog’s transition to your home a smooth one; recommendations for Preferred Trainers; advice on pet behavior and wellness topics; Facebook litter groups to keep in touch with fellow adopters; and invitations to local rescue hosted events.
