My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Get ready to embrace a whirlwind of fun with Chestnut, our 5-year-old (b. 2019) Husky who’s as sweet as he is spirited! If you’re searching for a furry friend who’ll keep you on your toes and fill your days with joy, Chestnut is the one for you!

Chestnut is a bundle of energy wrapped in a fluffy coat, and he’s got a personality as vibrant as his name. He’s housebroken, crate-trained, and a total cuddle bug who loves nothing more than curling up with you after a day of adventure. He’s also friendly with kids and gets along famously with other dogs, making him the perfect addition to a lively family. This sweet boy has a zest for exploration and a playful spirit. He’ll thrive in a home with a fully fenced yard where he can safely enjoy his adventures and stretch his legs. Chestnut is always eager to dig into new experiences and explore every nook and cranny, so a secure yard is essential for keeping his adventurous heart content.

While he might still be mastering leash training and basic commands, his enthusiastic nature makes him a quick learner with the right guidance. He’s also a fan of fetch and has a knack for turning every day into an exciting journey. His love for cuddles and his cozy crate (with a cover for extra comfort) will make him feel right at home. Chestnut is searching for a loving home with a spacious yard and an owner ready to engage in some fun training adventures. If you’re ready for a loyal companion who’ll keep life exciting and full of laughter, Chestnut is your guy! Let this charming boy bring a whole lot of love and adventure into your life!

The suggested adoption donation for Chestnut is $375, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.

Alter Agreement: If the dog or cat you adopt is older than 6 months of age and not spayed or neutered, you will receive a voucher to alter the pet at Val Verde Animal Hospital or Omaha Animal Medical Group in Omaha, at no cost to you. Or you can alter the pet at your own vet and be reimbursed $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, of total cost. If the dog or cat is younger than 6 months of age, the adopter will be responsible for the cost of altering the pet at the vet of their choice. If proof of alter if received by Muddy Paws prior to the pet turning 6 months of age, a reimbursement of $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, will be sent to you to help cover expenses. All puppies and kittens MUST be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age. All dogs and cats MUST be spayed or neutered no later than one month after adoption is finalized.

Please Note: A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we only assist the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new forever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue, and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption.

Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver.

Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.

More about this rescue

Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue, Inc. is a not for profit organization formed in 2014 by a small group of devoted animal lovers, in the Council Bluffs/Omaha area, with many years of rescue experience wanting to make a difference in the lives of dogs. Our rescue focuses on small breed dogs, less than 35 pounds, of any age. It is all volunteer based, and all of our rescue dogs are living in the homes of our volunteers.
Our rescue is unique in that we offer supportive services, such as education and training, to owners considering relinquishing their pet in an effort to try to keep the dog in their home whenever possible. We also educate and offer placement assistance to owners attempting to rehome their pets through social media sites, which can often be risky for the pets as well as the owners.
