My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Birdie is the ultimate best friend! So snuggly, affectionate, silly, and full of personality. So RELAXED too, Birdie is a truly amazing dog.

We suspect Birdie to be a Staffordshire Terrier mix of some sort, and she has the big staffy-baby eyes to prove it. She weighs in around 50 pounds, and we estimate her age to be around 4 years old. Birdie is a rescue, her exact age and breed are unknown and cannot be guaranteed.

Fall in love with Birdie here: https://youtu.be/gcYdf3yxSyU?si=Ufz1wrXX4wQrzjEv

With people, Birdie is just a great time. She’s so fast to open up with new people, and loves making new friends. She’ll hop up on your lap and settle in for a big snuggle session. If you have friends over, she’ll play hostess- making sure each and every guest gets some kisses. Here at the rescue, Birdie attended a staff meeting, and spent the whole time meandering the room, napping under our feet, sitting up for head scratches, climbing into our laps for love, rubbing against our legs for affection. She’s so loving and SO gentle. She doesn’t plow into people the way dogs of her size are often prone to do, she takes treats so gently and is so careful when she does hop up into your lap. Oh, and she asked me to tell you that she LOVES belly rubs.

With other dogs, Birdie is calm, relaxed and friendly. She greets other dogs politely, but isn’t too interested in playing rough and rowdy. She likes to zoom around and play chase, but otherwise she’s content to share some sniff time, or maybe sunbathe with her doggy friends.

Birdie is just SO ridiculously cute. She has that classic big goofy pittie smile, and a great sense of humor. She’ll drink out of the water hose, shimmy around for pets- she has a million ways to make us laugh. If you laugh at her rolling around on the floor, or scritching her booty, she’ll burst into a big grin and keep doing whatever made you laugh! She likes to scritch her booty on just about anything, the bottoms of chairs, benches or the side of the couch. See Birdie scritch in her video!

Birdie has great house manners, and hasn’t had any accidents in the house here at the rescue! She does really well in her crate as well, and has travelled crated in the car! Birdie also knows a handful of basic commands, including “sit” and “lay down.” She’s treat motivated (and will work for pets!) and will be so enjoyable to further train, if you desire. Birdie is a smart, eager-to-please girl with just SO much heart.

Birdie does have cropped ears, which will deter some adopters, unfortunately. Cropped ears come with stigmas from all angles, but ultimately, the dogs are the ones who pay. Birdie will need her ears cleaned with some regularity, but that is the only way in which her cropped ears will affect her life post-adoption. Here at the rescue, she is wonderfully tolerant as we clean her ears! For more information on adopting dogs with cropped ears, search for #AdoptTheCropped on your preferred social media platform.

Birdie’s perfect home has at least one loving human to call her own, who will give her lots of love! Our behavior team cat tested Birdie, unfortunately she was a little too interested in our house cat Tom, and is not recommended for a home with cats. Birdie could happily exist as your one-and-only baby, or as a member of your multi-dog household! Birdie has SO much personality, and I know she’ll really feel like a “part of the family.”

If you’re looking for a sweet, goofy smart girl with SO much love to give, Birdie is your girl. We are willing to test this gorgeous girl with anything you need us to in order to ensure she’s the perfect match for you. If you have any questions about her, please reach out to her adoption coordinator, who would be thrilled to have a discussion with you about this sweet silly girl. Meet Birdie in person in Friendswood, Texas, or virtually via video chat to get to know her better.

Why adopt from Three Little Pitties?

The stray and animal overpopulation in the Greater Houston area is the highest in the nation. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. This dog you’ve found online is lucky to be in our program, and even luckier to have you notice it!

Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. From the moment they are accepted into our program, our Intake, Behavior & Medical teams prepare them for adoption by properly vetting, behaviorally assessing, and providing customized plans depending on the dog’s needs. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training efforts, but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be!

It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these special perks:

• 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion (must register within 24 hours of first vet appt.)
• A free private online dog training session with GoodPup plus low pricing for future sessions (approx $25 weekly for an 8 week course of one session per week)
• One free bonus toy in every BarkBox when signing up for their Super Chewer subscription plan
• 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a PNW based, organic fresh dog food loaf meal subscription plan
• Coupons for a fun visit to Petco
• Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary this year! Through the combined efforts of all of our hardworking staff and volunteers, we have placed over 12,000 very lucky dogs and cats into amazing homes! By adopting from us, you save TWO lives! The pet you adopt, and you create an opportunity for another animal to be saved in that spot. Together, we can be heroes.
