My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*** Hi there! I'm your darling doggo, Derp ***

I'm a young (approximately one-year-old) male American Pit Bull mix. I weigh about 58 lbs. (mainly all muscle) and have been told I'm quite the looker! I have a shiny grayish/blue coat, soulful brown eyes, and the cutest little tongue that loves to make an appearance even when I'm not smiling (which is quite rare). You'll see my smile come out instantly when I'm getting my daily pets, training with treats, and giving kisses to my favorite shelter dogmates.

Since arriving to the shelter, I have been working on getting a little braver each and every day. It does take me a little bit of time to warm up in new situations and I can become especially shy meeting men. But once I do feel safe, I love to be loved on and give it right back! My male volunteer pals have been able to walk me just fine but at times I do need some extra encouragement and pawsitivity to remind me that I'm in a safe space. As I continue to build my confidence in the world, it would be best I went to a quieter home with adults and older, considerate kids.

But I'm not too shy when it comes to the fur-iends I've made at the shelter. I enjoy running the fence line with my pawsome pals, giving them kisses in between, and wagging my short stubby tail. But if you do have another doggo at home, my staff friends will properly introduce us to see if we are comfortable with one another.

In between my favorite activities I like to show off my skills, especially on the ramp! I can zoom up and down before you even say "do you want a treat? I've learned "sit, and "down, and have been learning how to play fetch with my squeaky toys! I'll also never shy away from yummy treats which help keep me focused so I can learn even more awesome commands.

Not to brag but I'm a shelter volunteer favorite, and if you ask any of my volunteer buddies, they will smile and tell you how special I truly am. Maybe it's my contagious grin, my rugged good looks, my playful side, or my sweet loving side? Come meet me and you will see for yourself.

Derp was brought to our shelter on 8/8/24 after being found in Dublin. He hasn't been reclaimed by his previous person, so he's now looking for a new home. Derp is trying hard to be brave, but he is a bit nervous in new environments, and a bit shy meeting new people. He may prefer a quieter home with adults and older, considerate kids.

** Derp's neuter is being sponsored by TVAR ($35 adoption and, if applicable, licensing fees still apply) **

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Please browse our adoptable animals. We make every effort to keep our listings updated.

Each of our animals has contact information in the description - either referencing the phone number of the foster volunteer who is fostering the animal or East County Animal Shelter contact information if a shelter animal.

If you have questions, please use the contact information in the description directly. We attempt to forward emails sent to contact@tvar.org to the foster though it is not necessarily before the animal is adopted. Also, volunteers who monitor this email do not know the animals whereas the fosters do!

If a dog or puppy is in foster with TVAR, please fill out an adoption application (available here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/TVAR/Dog). We consider each application and pick the best one for the animal in question. In general, we do not do out of area adoptions. Kittens do not need applications completed - just contact the foster!

If an animal is at ECAS, they have their own adoption process. Please go to ECAS (they are open daily 11:30am to 5:30pm except holidays) to meet the animal and learn about ECAS's adoption process.

All TVAR animals are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, treated for worms and fleas, and microchipped. Felines are FIV/FeLV tested. Many of our pets also come with a "packed bag" that can include a variety of goodies like bedding, food, toys, leashes, and even private training sessions with our professional trainers. Adoption fees vary by species. Our fee range is $120-$350. The foster volunteer can provide specifics for the animals in their care.

Go meet their pets

**Please go to www.tvar.org to check adoption event status before going** Dog adoptions take place at the Pleasanton Farmers Market, at the park on the corner of First and Angela streets, every Saturday morning from 10am to 1pm. All of our adoptable dogs (and selected ECAS dogs) are available on our website and on adopt-a-pet.com.

Kittens adoptions take place every Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 3 pm at the Dublin PetSmart, pending availability. During kitten season (March to December), we have way more kittens than we could ever hope to post online, so come visit us at PetSmart to see our selection.

All of our adoptable animals can also be met/adopted by appointment made directly with the foster volunteers.

More about this rescue

Tri-Valley Animal Rescue (TVAR) was founded in 1992 and is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving the East Bay (San Francisco Bay Area). We primarily place shelter animals in foster care of TVAR volunteers while trying to find them permanent homes. Although we do not have a facility of our own, we help over 1000 animals find forever homes yearly through the hard work and dedication of our East County Animal Shelter shelter volunteers who socialize shelter animals daily and assist the public in selecting a pet to adopt.

We have a variety of volunteer programs including a shelter program and four foster programs. We are always looking for more volunteers - especially fosters. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please check out our volunteer page (https://www.tvar.org/volunteer/) for information.
