My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Frito, the 5.5-month-old mixed medium breed with a name as fun as his personality! This dashing lad was part of our chip litter, but sadly, he's been returned from his foster-to-adopt home. Don't let that crumby situation fool you-Frito is a gem in need of a forever home ASAP. This little snack is precious and ready to spice up your life! He's looking for someone who'll stick with his training and give him plenty of activities to keep him busy. Frito would also love to have a doggy sidekick in his new home. Ready to add some extra crunch to your life? Frito's your guy!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first step in adopting an animal is making a trip to the shelter. Check the cats available and dogs available listings, but you might want to visit the shelter personally since new animals arrive every day. To learn more about animals available at the RPAS, call (707)584-1582.

The adoption process:
When you find an animal you want to adopt, you will be asked to fill out an adopter profile.
Shelter staff will talk to you about adopting an animal and answer any questions you might have. They will call your landlord if you rent your home, to make sure that type of pet is allowed.
Spend some time with the animal! Make sure that the entire family feels comfortable with the animal that you have picked out.
If you already own a dog and you want to adopt another one, you are required to bring in your dog to make sure that they get along. There is a big fenced in area next to the shelter where the dogs can interact.
There is an adoption contract and other paperwork to complete. Adoptions stop 1/2 hr before we close so we have ample time to go over all the information and answer your questions.
The adoption fee is $95.00 for cats and dogs (an additional $60.00 training deposit is required for certain dogs - training deposit is refundable with proof of completing an obedience class).

More about this shelter

We are a municipal shelter assisting the animals and people in Rohnert Park and Cotati. Our organization moved to its current beautiful facility in 1995. We have a skeleton paid staff and rely heavily on the assistance of over 100 active volunteers to enable us to offer all the services we do. We run a summer educational camp program for children, offer tours of the shelter, microchips for the public, provide stray animals refuge from the dangers outdoors and have a successful adoption program for the animals in our care.
