Trace is a polite gentleman who is very content by your side, getting pets, and wouldn't mind a treat or two! Trace was found as a stray dog and described by his finder as "scared at first but super friendly, fun and loving around children". Is that a trace of love in your eyes? We think so and it must be because of our boy Trace!!
Trace is now available for adoption at ACCT Philly- you can meet him any day from 10am-6pm. He hopes to see you soon!
Behavior:
Per volunteer on 9/27: Trace REALLY wanted to get outside. He met me at his kennel door with a wagging tail. Outside he seems so happy to smell new smells. On our run he loved running! He also loves sitting with me for pets. He's snuggly!
Per staff on 9/26: ook some time with him for rounds. When I approached, Trace was lying on his bed but happily came up to me when I said hi. His head was low and his body was neutral-loose. Very easy to leash, and he immediately took a moment to sit at my feet and soak up attention before running to the end of the leash. Overwall, however, he was easy to leash and would only really pull when he saw someone he wanted to say hi to. He would move on quickly if they didn't give him attention. In general, his tail was mid-high, no hackles raised, normal pupils. Mostly C-shaped during any interaction, although no jumping or overexcitement.
I took him outside so he could stretch his legs and get all the good sniffs. I would call him over and he would come and solicit attention, then go back to sniffing once I stopped petting. Allowed all handing without escalation, although I noted some lip licking during butt scratches. After about five minutes, he came over to solicit actual attention and then stuck by me. When he did solicit we was very gentle and subtle about it. We did play a bit of fetch - he preferred the soft toys to hard, and he did jump on me during play. Wasn't aroused, just excited.
At one point he did hear a dog bark and he barked back and his hackles went up. He continued to bark and be anxious until I called him, but he was easy to redirect (I didn't even stand up - just called him twice and he came over and sat with me). When a stranger greeted that gave him actual attention he was much happier to stay with them and solicit. He also seems to know his name!
I would say he'd be good with any family that is okay with a dog that is a bit more lowkey, not as in your face, and is willing to give him sufficient outside time for sniffs.
8/26/24 volunteer notes: Trace is a fun & playful fella. Super easy to leash up and take out of his crate, Trace was ready to adventure along outside. We played some fetch, he sat for treats, & loved pets & scritches all over. A total gem of a pup who was happy to meet another pal at the fence & say hi with so many tail wags!
Per Volunteer 8/16/24:
Very easy to leash and very polite boy! He seems like he might be an older gentleman. Walked very well with minimal pulling. He seems to have some sort of gait when I watch him walk from behind. He was very interested in the surrounding dogs and noises of the city, really enjoyed sniffing around the play yard! .He liked treats but wasn't overly treat motivated, took them super gently! Liked chasing tennis balls but not very high energy. He was a bit jumpy on me when he got excited but very lightweight and gentle so would do fine with people of all ages in my opinion. He wasn't overly affectionate but took some pets. Very wiggly and loose the whole time we were out, laid back guy!

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Trace was laying on his bed. He sat up and looked up with soft eyes and came to the front and allowed easy leashing. No issues exiting or returning
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulled minimally, limping on leg
HANDLING:
Trace was very sweet in the room. He had soft eyes and a wagging tail. He was whining a lot, but would seek out comfort from his handlers and climb into our laps for pets. He rested his head against us and was tolerant of all petting. He was very sweet in the room and well mannered. We were careful around his leg due to the injury.
