My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Tex Mex was brought in by a community member on July 6, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Tex Mex, a shy soul who takes his time adjusting to new faces and places. In unfamiliar environments, his first instinct might be to run away, so he needs a quiet and secure home, without young children, where he can feel safe. Although Tex Mex hasn't shown his social side with us yet, he has a soft spot for bacon treats and cheese, making treats a great way to bond with him. When he's excited, he might surprise you with a burst of zoomies followed by a cozy nap (this boy loves his naps)! Tex Mex has done well with other small dogs, especially with slow and gentle introductions. Tex Mex does have some medical concerns and we would love to have you speak with one of our vets prior to adoption to set everyone up for success! If you're patient and ready to offer a loving, calm environment, Tex Mex could be the perfect addition to your family!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
