My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact Janelle (adopt@q.com) for more information about this pet.

Approximate DOB 7/1/2022

Be aware birthdays and breeds listed are our best guesses based on looks - we seldom know this information unless they come in with registration papers.

Approximate Adult Size - Small

History- Taylor was a stray at a local shelter. she was terrified - barking, running from, and snapping at everyone that went near her kennel. Staff had her wrapped in a towel to do her intake because she was so freaked out with the situation. We saw her posted and asked about her and sure enough they were like yea we can transfer her do you want to come see her and see if you can touch her? Ok so she was terrified and now she is here.

Temperament- Super sweet and loving once she gets to know you. Treats really win her over. She loves them so will overcome her fears to get a snack. She is still a tad fearful and will run and hide when we are outside and I have to give the other animals water or if I raise my voice at all no matter what she gets really scared and will start running around to try and find a place to hide. She will need someone loving and patient to help her with her emotional trauma from her past.

Energy Level- Very mellow but she is still worried about her situation and seems to be waiting for something bad to happen. I do believe once she realizes nobody is going to beat her she might become more playful but as of right now she just wants to be next to me or on my lap.

Dogs/Cats- She doesn't really interact with any of the other dogs or cats. She's not mean to them she just ignores them. She really just follows me around however I believe in time she would bond to another dog or cat.

Housetrained- She is house and crate trained.

Taylor is the sweetest little girl ever. She is a bit of a worrier though. She will need a very loving home that can just love and baby her to make her feel safe. She is good with kids as long as they are not nutty and loud- maybe teens but not small children. She was snapping at the shelter because she was so scared. She has not snapped since being here however she gets scared easily so if she isn't comfortable yet and someone tries rushing her she could easily get scared enough to snap again. So probably no small children or children (or even adults) that don't understand she will need space and time. She would love to have a home with a sweet gentle person that she can just follow around, hang out with, and cuddle. She loves attention so much but it almost seems like in her past she was abused - she runs and hides if you raise your voice or get loud at all like even just everyone talking and laughing can worry her. She is also terrified of the water hose and hides every time I have to give everyone water or water the garden she is getting better but still peeks around the corner for when it is off. Initially she is just such a scared little girl however she has been meeting people and has done amazing but she will need some time and patience to show her sweet side so please don't come out expecting a little dog who is excited to meet you and will jump up and be wagging her tail- she will step up slowly for treats and wait quietly for pets. She is a quiet gentle sweet little soul who just needs to learn and understand not everyone is going to hurt her.

Additional adoption info

If you are interested in adopting from us but have questions please feel free to e-mail us at adopt@almosthomenm.org

In order to start the application process you must send us an e-mail request for an application. We will e-mail it to you as soon as possible. Then just fill it out and send it back via e-mail. Once we receive it then we can schedule an appointment for you to come out and meet the animals.

We are not an open to the public facility with specific hours of operation. We are a foster home and therefore require an application submitted before an appointment can be made and directions given out.

If you would like to adopt from out of state then you must be willing to come out to meet and adopt the pet you are interested in.. We do not ship pets nor will we meet someone somewhere.. We want adopters to come out and spend at least an hour with this pet in their environment before adopting just to ensure there is a connection. We would hate for the adoption to not work and be so far away.

More about this rescue

We are a newly formed rescue in Peralta, NM. We are still very small and currently in process of getting our 501c3 tax exempt status. It is mainly just myself, my two daughters and a small group of volunteers. We only take in animals from shelters who are scheduled to be put down. All animals are housed in my home and on my property. We started this rescue due to the simple fact that there are so many wonderful dogs dying everyday at the shelters because there just isn't enough room.We do not discriminate against any breed. Every dog has the potential to be a great family pet, working dog, or therapy dog- just as every dog has the potential to become a "dangerous dog" due to the simple fact that they all (or most anyway) have teeth and can bite when provoked or trained to obey their owners commands.
We do it for the love of the animals and the need to find forever homes for the ones impounded due to no fault of their own.
