PICASSO NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:   Picasso        Best Guess for Breed:   Lab and boxer mix

Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of August 2024       Gender:  Male

Approximate Weight: 55 lbs

Gets Along WithPicasso does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog. We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested. We would be cautious placing him in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.

Currently Living At: South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get his freedom ride up here!

Check out these videos of Picasso: https://youtu.be/tLY9Pd8muEE and https://youtu.be/kXkfxT3b1Qc.

Special Adoption Considerations: Picasso is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.

We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!

Picasso is shy and needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. We would be cautious placing Picasso in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.

Picasso is Looking For:His forever home! Shelter staff say this dark and handsome cutie is very sweet. He's eager to have his own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in the park, and all the adventures they can dream up - he's got all that awesome young-dog energy to burn off! Thing is, right now he hasn't seen enough of the world and can be pretty shy. He's hoping for extra patient and loving adopters who will help show him the world at his pace, and a welcoming resident dog who will show him how to dog.

He also wants his new humans to know he's completely over all that cubism stuff. Soft rounded things now, please. A cushy dog bed! Better yet, a sofa that he can sink into while curled up against his human! Plush doggie toys to squeak, balls for fetch, ropes for tug - he'd like to try them all and see what he likes best. Most of all, though, he wants to know he's safe and loved for all his days and will never again have to wield a paintbrush to earn his living. It's hard getting paint out of his coat!

What do you say? Is Picasso the companion you have been seeking?

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
