Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Fanta is one of the 60 Shih-Tzu recently surrendered by a breeder.
They were all flea-infested and living in very unsanitary conditions. Most of the dogs lost almost all of their hair, but you can see this cute guy managed to keep most of his.
Fanta is 5-6 years old. He's come a long way since arriving a couple of weeks ago. He was very skittish but is so much better. He has no problem meeting new people as long as they are patient with him and let him come up to them at his pace.
His personality is starting to come out and he is starting to play and can be very amusing and goofy.
He is a little nervous around the cats in the home but doesn't try to chase them. The foster family does not have any other dogs but we know he lived in a house with 59 other dogs his size so he may be OK with small dogs, but it would probably take him awhile to warm up. He would do good as an only dog.
He loves to curl up on the couch with his foster mom and loves to be next to her all the time so he does need a home where someone is home a lot.
He doesn't like being in a crate, but he is housebroken so no need to crate him. He does walk well on a leash.
He does have some corneal density in his right eye which impairs his vision but he sees around it and that shouldn't change. He is vaccinated, neutered, negative for heartworms and micro-chipped.
Fanta would do great with a person who wants a companion to be with them all the time. Young children would not be good since he is still skittish. We can see he is already doing so much better than when he arrived, and we know he is going to make a great companion for someone.
If you are interested in Fanta our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org. He is located in Williamsburg.

More about this rescue
Homes Fur Hounds Inc. was formed to help the overwhelming number of animals that are abandoned, surrendered to county agencies and simply unwanted. These animals are facing death due to no fault of their own other than not being convenient. Our mission is to help stop the unnecessary killing of animals. Thousands of animals are put to sleep (some more humanely than others) every day. We strive to educate the public on the importance of spaying, neutering, heartworm preventive and general health care. We also strive to help owners who are experiencing difficulties with their pet find solutions to their problems. By helping them find solutions we keep the animals out of the county pounds and from being abandoned. It is our policy to adopt out only healthy dogs and to do our best to know and understand what type of home the dog needs. We are always striving to find that “forever home” for the animals.
