My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey there, I'm Ferdinand-though my friends call me Ferdy! I'm a big ol' love bug, tipping the scales at 125 pounds of pure heart and charm that can win just about anyone over. My secret to happiness? When my humans stay calm and cozy with me. Trust me, when you cup my head and gaze into these soulful eyes, I'll melt like butter in your hands.

Don't let my size fool ya! Sure, I've got some playful energy, but I'm not one of those dogs who needs hours of running. Just a bit of exercise to let my goofy side shine through. Fun fact: I'm a pro office dog. Yep, I'll curl up next to you with my favorite stuffy and drift off into snoring bliss while you work. Which is like my ultimate dream-being right by my person at all times.

And yeah, I might look like a gentle giant, but deep down, I'm still a giant puppy at heart! I can get a little mouthy when I'm excited (what can I say? I've got big feelings!), but it's nothing a giant stuffy or rope toy can't fix. My humans joke that I need a dog-sized pacifier-guess I've still got some "teething" to do!

My buddies over at the SPCA of Northern Nevada are looking out for me and carefully choosing who gets to take me home, but come meet me, fall in love, and it shouldn't take long! So, if you think you've got room in your heart (and home) for all this big, lovable puppy energy, visit me today! Let's see if we're a match!

Go meet their pets

We have events througout the year to highlight our adoptable animals. One favorite event each year is our local public swimming pool closes to the public in the fall and the very last day the pool is open only to dogs in the community. Shelter dogs play, splash and mingle with public dogs in two pools and cool off for the final hot days of the summer.

We post our events on our website and Facebook and through other various media outlets.

More about this rescue

The mission of the SPCANN is to be an innovative regional leader in responsible treatment of homeless cats and dogs, primarily through their rescue and placement in forever loving homes, and by promoting spaying and neutering to control pet overpopulation. We accomplish our mission with dedication to our core values and a lifetime commitment to our animals.

We are Reno's first no-kill animal shelter, founded in 1998. Each year our shelter develops more progressive programs such as our Rural Rescue Program where we aggressively rescue animals from rural animal control agencies and support their joint efforts to move animals out of their facilities and into ours to avoid euthanasia. We also have expanded our reach into schools with our Humane Initiative Program where we teach and show compassion to animals. We have more programs and many projects on the horizon - visit our website to see more!!!
