My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mathew is a 5 yrs old, 11lbs Chihuahua. He’s quiet, house-trained, and a couch potato. Will amuse himself with a toy, or just snooze. Loves 5min of fetch, or to sunbathe. A short walk is plenty for him, and walks well on leash (non-reactive). He doesn’t guard his food or toys, has no separation anxiety being left home alone, and he puts himself to bed at night.

We believe Matthew had had bad experiences with people in the past and can get very nervous or defensive. He is best suited to a patient, calm, household and lifestyle, without too many visitors, changes, or shared spaces, where he can feel safe and relaxed. He could be someone’s most loyal little buddy!

He wants to love, he’s very affectionate and snuggly, he just doesn’t fully trust it yet. If someone can create an environment where he feels safe is patient (give him more than a few weeks before they expect to pick him up), he’ll settle in nicely and bond very strongly with his person.

More about this rescue

We are a group of volunteers and rescuers combining our skills to help fosters get a dog out of the shelter! The dogs in our program have begun house, crate, and leash training. Our fosters follow a handful of house rules. The transition to a new home is easiest for your dog when these structures are carried over for some time and privileges are gradually introduced. This helps minimize anxiety and behavioral issues.
