The following information came from Kodi's loving former owners, a family in mid-transition unable to provide adequate space and concerned for their family member's well-being. They are sadly seeking to rehome Kodi to a loving and permanent family, for the sake of the dog's best interests:
He is the children's guard dog, he does not allow any strangers to come near his fence with them in it, or to directly approach the vehicle. He will bark aggressively, he has never lunged or tried to attack a stranger because we do not encourage that behavior. We use a training e-collar that is very effective for him, but we only use the noise setting as our deterrent. He is very intelligent and wants to be obedient and listen. He is very easy to train with consistency. He is very good natured, cam, loving, and loves to play and receive attention.
But he is a guard dog, he has a job to do and he takes it seriously, so we have to deter him from those undesirable traits that could develop into a serious issue if not addressed or restrained. He must be introduced to strangers in order to accept them as friendly, but he is highly discerning and may still bark at someone he senses is not good-willed or friendly.
He is claustrophobic and may defecate in his crate if left unattended, such as for the night. We tried to kennel train him but he never did well. He is best left in a sheltered area outdoors if left alone. He does not overeat and is not food reactive with other animals like our cat or visiting dogs.
He does not like being separated from his people. He takes his job very serious of shepherding and protecting us. He will whine and bark if we walk away while he is in the fence or if in the vehicle.
EXTREMELY sensitive to thunder and fireworks, needs to be sheltered from them. Also claustrophobic and will not crate well.
