My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Joni!

Joni was a street dog living in Mexico with her two puppies and all three were suffering from a severe case of demodex mange, along with skin infections. We were able to rescue her two babies first but unable to catch her. A couple weeks later with the help of some amazing volunteers she was caught and her journey to our rescue in Oregon started. Joni was extremely shut down, guarded and difficult to handle when she arrived. Joni has since made remarkable progress and it has been a special thing to be a part of. Joni has created a small circle of people she trusts for herself and with those people she is playful, affectionate and trusting. Joni is a petite girl at just 25 pounds and is very polite and quiet. She has adjusted to living indoors beautifully, walks well on leash and has started the process of crate training so she can be kept safe and secure in a home when left alone.

Joni does need to go to a home with another well balanced dog in it, as it provides great comfort and guidance for her. Joni would likely do fine with cats with slow introductions and proper boundaries set. Joni has not shown any kind of prey drive and we don't feel she has the confidence to cause problems with a cat. Joni may do ok with older kids on a case by case basis. We are looking for a local adopter to Eugene/Springfield who would be able to arrange multiple visits to Joni and work with her and our trainer at the rescue on building a relationship prior to taking her home. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled on Instagram (@nwdogproject) for updates! If you would like to be considered as Joni's forever home, be sure to submit an adoption application on our website!
