PERFECT FAMILY DOG
Oreo is a playful and active girl of barely 1 year old. She LOVES playing in the water--we can picture her happily on the beach in Tahoe! She also enjoys going for car rides, playing tug, and frolicking with other dogs. Oreo is great in the house and politely enjoys family dinner time. She would also love a yard and people to play with her in it! Oreo is a sweet and fun loving young girl looking for someone to enjoy life with. Will that be you?

Oreo has been loved by every person that meets her, enjoys baths and is super smart. Oreo walks nicely on a loose leash, knows sit, down, and loves to play tug! She will be super excited to continue learning in her new home as she is still young and loves playing fun games.

Our Adoption Process
1. Begins with a simple online application to help us understand your needs and what you would like in your furry friend.
2. Next, we invite you to send us a virtual walk through of your home including where the dog will sleep, play, and stay when you are away.
3. We move forward with a meet and greet! Personal chemistry is important and both the adopter and pup need to be feelin’ it.
4. We deliver your new family member to your home where you sign the adoption contract and present proof of paid enrollment in a basic obedience course. If you need help finding a reputable trainer please ask us for recommendations!

We get to know each one of our dogs personally during their training with us and strive to put the right dog, in the right home, the first time. Please understand that multiple families are often applying at the same time and it is our responsibility to match each dog with the best fit possible.

More about this rescue

The Dog House Rescue is the pet project of two dog lovers that wandered into a municipal animal shelter to pick up one new family member and left with seven. Like much of the public, we had mistakenly believed that most shelters are able to provide a no-kill haven for homeless animals. Due to overcrowding, the euthanasia rate at that facility alone is 80%. With the average dog having less than one week to find an adopter, it is easy to find great dogs who were simply born in an unfortunate geographic area.

We exist to help bridge the gap between loving homes seeking good citizen companions and good natured dogs looking for an opportunity to show their stuff. Those that have found themselves in a shelter (through no fault of their own) and would otherwise be euthanized for space are given medical treatment, spayed/neutered, and trained so that they may continue to be good citizens in their forever families.

All residents at The Dog House are considered family for life. We understand that personal tragedies happen. If a Dog House member is ever unable to continue in their adopted home, they are welcomed back with open arms. Having already survived the shelter once, our promise to them is to never be homeless again.
