Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
I found a new home! Plenty of my friends are looking for one too. Check out other pets at this shelter, or start a new search.

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.
Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Pike Creek, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit.
Meet Charlie and Ruby, the dynamic senior Dachshund duo ready to snuggle their way into your hearts!
At 13 years old 12 pounds, and 11 years old 10 pounds, Charlie and Ruby came to us after their owner passed and extended family could no longer care for them. This bonded, friendly pair wants nothing more than to snuggle with their humans and enjoy rolls in the grass.
They came through initial foster care with flying colors: Ruby had a dental, a large hernia removed, and takes a $5/month arthritis supplement. Charlie had a dental, small mass removed from his chin, and was found to have a heart murmur. A recent echocardiogram showed his condition is happily manageable without medication.
These two are in great shape for seniors, with good vision and generally good hearing, though they do have sensitive backs like many aging dachshunds. They have learned to skillfully use a ramp to cuddle on the couch and to get outside, and would like to maintain their independence this way. An adult home or one where older kids understand this need is preferred.
Charlie and Ruby did spend part of their lives confined to a small space, so now with a taste of a yard, they would like a home with at least a small fenced grassy area. They want to know their humans are around, so someone who is home more often than not would be great. They do well with other small dogs, but a home without cats would be best since doxies are hunters at heart. They are basically fully potty trained, though they appreciate a wee pad on standby for those just-in-case occasions. Once they understand their new routine with you, they will settle in nicely.
In short – just like Charlie and Ruby themselves – this doxie duo is ready for their final chapter with their furever humans, and just want love and snuggles and treats. Apply today to bring home this cute pair for double the snuggles and double the joy!
