Pumpkin got his name because he is sweet as pumpkin pie and looks like a big smiley pumpkin! He`s about 2 years old, extremely house tainted (no accidents in kennel or on Volunteer outings), has a balanced temperament, is leash trained and gets along well with other calm pups! He loves sunbathing and taking car rides!
Pumpkin is truly a dream pup in every aspect. All of that said, he can be shy with strangers, and is touch sensitive. Pumpkin needs a foster or adopter who will be patient and allow him the space he needs to learn how to feel comfortable in a home and to trust. He recently went on an outing with a Volunteer and he opened up so much in just 2 nights. This gives us confidence and hope that when he is in his forever home, he will truly blossom into the confident and comfortable man he has shown he is!
A few more details from his recent outing with volunteers -- He appears to be non destruction in the home and respectful of things left out like slippers, toys and cords. When he did grab something, he quickly put it down when he heard No. He appears to be quite playful for short periods of time and loved playing chase around the yard. After a bit, he is ready to go inside for a nap. He didn`t react to other pups in the neighborhood and has a playful stance! Pumpkin responds quickly to treats, which means when it comes to learning more commands with you, he will be eager to please. He also is used to crate training so if this is something you`d like to continue as his foster or adopter, he has a head start on training!
We have seen him be very respectful of boundaries. He eats next to his human friends, and respects that it`s not for him. Similarly, he will respond to `No` when he jumped up on a bed he wasn`t supposed to be on. Overall - this guy is easy going, and a dream boy who is desperately yearning for a trusting and comfortable home. Can you offer Pumpkin time to decompress, while being respectful of his touch sensitivity? He would do well in a quiet and predictable home and we know he will shower you with love and loyalty.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day! For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites. For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.
Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
