Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ARF ARF! It`s Clifford the Big Red Dog! He`s known around here as the canine version of John Candy. He`s big. He`s boisterous. He`s a one-dog comedy show! Seriously, this low-riding, pot-bellied, floppy-eared dog is a real hoot. He greets all his new friends with his leopard seal bark and waddles on over for some belly rubs and ear scritches. But don`t let his plus-sized physique fool you. Clifford is a power-walker (or waddler, we should say), and he will happily go for nice long walks, just as long as you provide snack breaks along the way.

He`s a big fan of lounging, so if you love to cuddle up in front of the TV, Clifford`s ready for it! And even though he`s a senior, he has the zest of a playful puppy in the yard, where he loves to splash in the pool and waddle after toys. So come on over and meet our resident comedian. No matter what kind of day you`re having, he will make it infinitely better with his adorable smile.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
