My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Once upon a time, there were eight little huskies, all waiting in a California shelter. None of them knew why they were there or what would come next, but they spent their days talking to each other, hoping one day they could run and play together.

Then one day, they heard the humans' voices, sad and serious. There were too many dogs and too few spaces. They overheard "I'm sorry that I couldn't save you as people walked past their cages, and they didn't understand. But then, something wonderful happened-the shelter staff were laughing, excitedly planning an adventure to a place called Husky Halfway House in Oklahoma, where these eight huskies could finally be free to be together.

A big white van came the next day, taking all eight of them on a journey across the country. And that's how Bella arrived at H3 to meet Jenni and the team.

Bella is four years old with a gentle soul with a super sweet personality. With her beautiful woolly coat, she'll need some grooming, but she's a pro at handling it. Her energy level is just right-playful but balanced. Bella loves the kids in her foster home, and she gets along well with other dogs, especially males, though she'd do best with someone experienced if she's with female dogs. She knows her commands: sit, lay down, no jumping, and she walks wonderfully on a leash. Plus, she's house and crate trained, loves car rides, and does great in the bath.

This is Tracy here, and Bella has always been special to me. When I first met her, she looked at me with those deep brown eyes, like she was saying, "I love you so much, and you make me happy... please don't hurt me. That's a look that stays with you. One day, while I worked at the rescue, she kept me company, patiently waiting for a glance, a pet, or a scratch. Eventually, I just kept my hand on her head while I worked-it may have slowed me down, but that's a small price to pay to fill a stray husky's love meter.

Bella's journey has made her a dog who appreciates every bit of love she gets, and she's ready to find a family to call her own. She'll make a loyal, affectionate, and playful companion-one who will melt your heart, just as she did mine.

More about this shelter

We are committed and wholeheartedly dedicated to providing family and emergency services involving rescuing, sheltering, fostering, vetting, adoption and transportation of
"at risk" or "death row" husky and other large dog breeds.

Our goal is to not only provide these services in larger facilities than we currently have but also to use our resources to educate and raise public awareness on the benefits of properly caring for and keeping their pets and/or adopting from shelters and not shopping from breeders.

Our mission is to share our knowledge on the pro's of spay and neuter, the cons of backyard breeding and provide sound advice and services that help the community manage their day to day with their furry family members. Together, we can greatly reduce the number of unaltered, unvaccinated animals in our communities and put a dent in the homeless population by providing access to family services as well as spay, neuter and chip id programs.
