Hello, I am Timothy. I came to the shelter through a third party rescue.
This cat has come up positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Most cats with this virus live long, healthy lives. In very rare and extreme cases it can progress and these cats can become sick. This virus is not contagious to humans or other animals, and is only spread to other cats through deep bite wounds (drawing and ingesting blood). This cat should be kept inside at all times, and needs to get along with other cats in the home (no intense fighting). Since this is a virus that affects the immune system, it is important to stay on top of preventative care: annual veterinary exams, flea and parasite control, vaccines, and a healthy diet.
