My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Olivia and I'm from Missouri!

From her foster: Olivia is shy and slowly learning not all people are scary. She will cling to one person like velcro, following them wherever they go. She hates being away from her person and being alone. I recommend no shared walls as she'll bark and howl when kenneled or left alone, but otherwise, she is a fairly quiet pup, laying at my feet all day.

She loves to snuggle with her person on the couch and the bed. Olivia is frightened by new sounds and places. She usually prefers to run and hide, but sometimes she'll bark or whimper if anxious.

Olivia is only kenneled when we leave the house for her safety and the safety of our pets as the crate stresses her out.

Olivia loves to run! She hasn't figured out fetch yet but loves to chase the ball. She has started to chew more and loves Nylabones and crinkle toys. Squeakers scare her though.

Due to her timid nature, I have not taken her on walks but I would recommend a harness as she is easily spooked. A fenced backyard would also be best for this reason.

Getting Olivia to eat was a struggle at first, but we discovered she loves peanut butter and were able to encourage her to eat her kibble by drizzling some on her food. She is currently eating 2-3 meals a day and is now 17 lbs! She should probably be closer to 20 lbs as she is still quite bony. Her new family will need to have a lot of patience with food as it took almost two weeks before she started eating regularly and even now she still needs me to sit with her.

Oliva may or may not like men. We can't figure out what triggers her, but sometimes when my husband enters the house or emerges from downstairs, she starts barking out of fear. But she'll sit on the couch with us and sleep in the bed without issues. She also barked once at our daughter when she entered the house after playing outside. But she has never behaved this way with me.

Please consider if you have a quiet home and would love a faithful shadow to consider Olivia.

Go meet their pets

The Bond Between's goal is to not keep any animals at our rescue office. The majority of our animals are living in foster homes until they are adopted. Occasionally, animals are living in our rescue office that are in need of a foster home.

If you would like to meet an animal at our office who needs a foster, please reach out to inofficeanimals@thebondbetween.org and fill out our foster interest form at https://www.thebondbetween.org/foster

More about this rescue

The Bond Between is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on the bond between humans and animals. We were founded in 2009 as Secondhand Hounds. Since then, we have rescued over 29,000 dogs and cats with the help of thousands of fosters, volunteers, and supporters in our community. Our organization has grown from a rescue to a first-in-its-class animal wellbeing organization... now The Bond Between! We continue to provide safe shelter, proper veterinary care, and daily necessities for animals while working hard to help them build a bond with humans. We also focus on supporting the bonds that already exist between people and pets with our pet food shelf, respite foster care program, and focus on social services.

We wake up every morning saying YES to connecting people and animals, caring for them, and helping them fill each other’s hearts.

You can help support us today by donating, fostering, volunteering, or sharing The Bond Between.
