My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Crikey, this young man is quite the looker and although he is young, he already has a lengthy story. Crikey ended up in the shelter due to his previous owner's failures, it was reported he had bitten one of them on the foot & was not being properly cared for by the spouse. Crikey lived tethered in a backyard per the owner and had very little handling. While at the shelter he got quite ill and due to the contagious nature of his illness and bite history getting adopted was not looking good. Luckily on July 2 he was pulled from the shelter by EFHDH and taken into a foster home. Crikey is your typical young pup that had no boundary training and just didn’t know right from wrong. He is very smart, willing to learn, and has so much love to give. He has made strides in such a short time with my family, recovering from illness, learning to not use his mouth to get attention, meeting farm critters, bathing, nail trims, interacting with little humans, and so much more. He loves to play ball and with our other large pups. He is still working on leash manners and basic commands which is very going well, especially when treats are involved. He has done great around my two young boys ages 4 and 6 but can get overly excited when they run or make loud noise. Crikey has barked and bitten at the crate when strangers get close to his crate and I do believe it is more of a fear-based reaction. Once out of the crate when introduced to new people he is perfectly fine and does not continue to behave that way once meeting them again in the crate. Crikey has been introduced to our cats and is doing much better around them but still is not trusted to off-leash with them. He loves to play with our two large dogs and has had no issues making friends with them. He is crate-trained and does well when out in the house but will find anything he can to make into his toy. Play is the number one priority in his mind but he also likes to settle in for a good rub down and cuddle. Crikey has a huge heart and so very much love to give. He is the best boy who is willing to give you his everything and deserves humans that will do the same for him.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require potential adopters to fill out an Adoption Application. When that is approved we can arrange for the prospective adopter to meet the dog they are interested in. We do require an adoption contract to be signed at time of adoption. We have a virtual home-check process (don't forget to submit photos of the exterior of your home!) Adoption fees range depending on the age of the dog. We do have dogs located at qualified fosters throughout the state and also out of state.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Since all rescue dogs live in foster homes, there is no single facility to meet pups.

You will need to contact Ewenity Farms HDH to make arrangements to meet the rescue dog after you have an approved app on file. Apps can be filled out at ewenityfarm.org

More about this rescue

We are a small, foster-based rescue organization located in Southwest Florida. Being small helps us give more one-on-one attention to individual dogs and their needs. Rescued dogs are kept in our homes and treated as our own. Herding dogs are unique. They are highly intelligent and require much of the owner’s attention. The dogs are evaluated, when they come into the rescue, for any temperament and health issues. Then they are given basic obedience, socialization and rehabilitation as it is necessary.

It is our sole purpose to find forever homes for these loving, wonderful dogs that have been discarded through no fault of their own. All adopted dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, micro-chipped, and on flea and heartworm preventative.
