My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Vanilla, a very new addition to the Watermelon Family! He is very sweet and loves to greet you with whole body wiggles. He can be shy at first, but is very playful and happy. He is crate trained and does get along with other dogs, but does need a slow introduction.
He hasn't been around kids under the age of 10, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't love kids. He has not shown any signs of trying to dig or jump when outside, and is not barrier reactive to people or other dogs. He is still learning not to pull on a leash, but that is an easy fix with some training and consistent walks.

You can meet Vanilla at our main ranch location or email dogswmr@gmail.com for more information.

More about this shelter

Our shelter had it's beginnings in the mid 90's and formally became a nonprofit organization in 2001. The dream of Lee and Sophia DiClemente has grown to be the largest no-kill animal shelter in New Mexico. Lee passed in 2010, but Sophia carries on with the support of a small staff, a large number of volunteers, and numerous donors - large and small.
