My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Louie, a 4 month old Husky Shepherd mix who started out his life in Northern Manitoba, where he was found in a dump covered in mud, gum, and styrofoam. When Louie was found he was limping and seemed to have a broken back leg. Louie was quickly sent to the vet, and one x-ray later it was revealed that he had a broken femur. Louie was set up with pain management, casted, and put on the plane to make his way to us.

Although Louie was tossed away like trash, broken and in pain, he never let it affect his spirit, resilience, and ability to spread love to everyone he meets.

Once Louie landed in our care, he was prescribed crate rest and pain meds. Upon arrival and vet review of his x-rays, the decision was made to amputate the leg. Louie shocked the vets a few weeks later when he came in for his amputation appointment, and it was discovered that he had regained almost total use of his leg, not only walking on it, but playing and scratching with it, too. The decision was made to save the leg.

We are excited to announce that at Louie’s most recent vet appointment, his leg was cleared as fully healed! However, to avoid putting too much strain on his leg, Louie will need to stay fit and slim, requiring a good amount of daily exercise. Joint supplements will also be very important for Louie throughout the remainder of his life, to help with any arthritis that may arise later in his life.

Louie’s strength, resilience, and spirit has never wavered despite everything he has gone through in his little life. He brings joy, laughs, and life to everyone he meets. He is a true companion to everyone, including kids of all ages, dogs of all sizes, and cats. Louie has been fostered with puppies and dogs of all ages and sizes, many cats, and multiple children under the age of 5, and has done well with everybody!

He is a very smart boy who is food motivated, which makes training a breeze! His potty training is coming along very well. Louie still relies on his humans to get him outside frequently, but once he is out there he knows exactly what to do! He is quickly learning how to let us know when he needs to go outside. Plus, he sleeps soundly through the night in his crate with no accidents!

Louie has bounds of energy and absolutely loves his toys, which comes in very handy for redirecting him. He especially loves his chew toys. He’s a curious pup who loves to see what he can explore and conquer next, especially if it’s outside!

Louie is a great dog, he’s always looking for someone to play with and someone who is ready to snuggle with him when he’s done. He would make a great addition in any home that is prepared to love and care for him the way he deserves. Louie has been through so much in his short life, and he is ready to move on and forget the past with his forever family by his side.

Louie’s adoption fee is $700. He is neutered, microchipped, flea and tick treated, dewormed, and up to date on all relevant vaccines. To apply to adopt Louie, please fill out the application form, found here: https://form.jotform.com/221626931360250
