Additional adoption info

The first step in the adoption process is to find a dog who might be a good match for your family and complete a NON-BINDING application, either online, via email or at an adoption event. If you see a dog listed on Adopt A Pet or our website who appeals to you, we encourage you to apply online as we always make it a priority to bring the dogs who have interest in them to events.

Once your application is received, it will be promptly reviewed and you will be contacted within 48 hours. The next step is to visit with the dog at an adoption event or an arranged visit with the foster family. If you decide to pursue your interest in a particular dog after meeting him/her, you will be interviewed at the event/visit. It is important for all family members to be present for the interview/s unless prior arrangements have been made.

After the interview process, home visits are done for the applicants selected. The process generally takes about a week from start to finish. Please note: Applications are not approved on a first come first serve basis; rather, the home that seems to be the best fit for the dog is chosen.

The purpose of the application process is to find the best fit for dog and person/family. You may submit one application for multiple dogs.

You must be over the age of 18 years for your application to be considered. Please submit your application by email or online.

Our adoption fee is $295 which includes all age appropriate shots & vet care prior to adoption, spay/neuter & microchip. Adult dogs may vary based on circumstance but will never be greater than $295 including their spay/neuter & microchip.

More about this rescue

South Charlotte Dog Rescue (SCDR) is a non-profit, no-kill, volunteer dog rescue organization serving the South Charlotte, NC area. SCDR has observed a great need in our community to rescue, foster, provide medical care and love for the unwanted, homeless, neglected and abused animals we so often see. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs left homeless for whatever reason – dogs in public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation and an over-abundance of backyard breeders, dogs given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances and those in danger of abuse or neglect.

We place dogs in loving, permanent homes following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives.

Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, dogs in the greatest need take priority.

We are determined to keep administrative expenses extremely low so that virtually every dollar taken in goes directly to the care of the animals. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the dog beyond the adoption process.

Finally, we strive to work with area shelters and other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets.
