Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Rick is a sweet adult male Shepherd mix who arrived at the HSOV on August 6, 2024 after he was picked up on Glendale Road in Marietta Ohio by a Marietta City Policeman. Rick was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped.
This good-looking guy has a black short smooth coat with auburn highlights, a long tail, and a handsome face with dark brown eyes, a long chubby muzzle, and large erect ears.
The Good Samaritan who originally found Rick reported that this (possibly) older dog was very friendly and non-aggressive .. And that he seemed to be hearing-impaired.
Rick was such a 'good boy' when HSOV Kennel Tech/Adoptions Clerk Lauryn Hamilton accompanied him for outdoor photos late in the afternoon on August 7, 2024. Rick stayed close to Lauryn and politely asked for attention from her. It was very touching to see him look up so adoringly at Lauryn as she gently petted him .. And also very sad to see him looking at cars which were being driven into- and out of our parking lot as though he was in hopes that his family was coming to take him home.
Rick is a rather chunky boy who weighs 54 lbs. He walked fairly well on a leash for Lauryn.
In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Rick will be held for three days so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership.
Rick went home with a foster family on October 11, 2024 who plans to adopt him after he is neutered.
Update: Rick was returned by his foster family on October 30, 2024 since he had issues with separation anxiety and Rick was not doing well with mastering his housetraining routine. His foster family stated that Rick did well with cats, other dogs, and cattle.
