My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, my name is Hudson and I am an 8 year old lab mix. Although Im not super tall and have a lean look, I am 68 lbs. I'm a handsome, dark chocolate color with some white on my chest though my coat looks black in a lot of inside photos. My foster mom says I was probably someone's pet, since I was neutered and someone clipped my tail. I am good on a leash & know words like sit and treat, but I somehow became a stray. Without a chip, my owners had little hope of finding me. Unfortunately, the shelter in Kentucky who found me was super full and didnt give me a lot of time. After only 10 days, I was on the euthanasia list, and thats when TAR rescued me. I am a relaxed, mellow, sweet and loving guy. I love humans, and will rub up against you and ask for pets even when you first meet me. My favorite place to be is anywhere you are Ill lay at your feet while you work on the computer. Ill watch you as youre folding laundry or doing chores. As long as youre near me, and Im not locked away in one room alone, Im happy. I love to snuggle on the couch with my chin in your lap, though Im also happy laying on the floor at your feet. Also, I take treats SO gently! I'm generally not very into toys but have learned about the Kong toy and the nylabone at my foster house. Oh, and if youre going out, I really like car rides. I just hop right in and Im really good and quite in the car, so maybe just take me with you if youre going out! I am very friendly to humans and greet every person I meet on a walk with a wiggle-butt, wagging stub (tail). I am very trusting and let human touch my anywhere. My current foster home has teens, and I am great with them. Ive had some gentle and friendly interactions with young kids, but because of my size, TAR is recommending that kids in my new home be at least 8. I'm generally a quiet boy in the house, but when I do bark, that bark is Loud! So, Im a good deterrent, but shared-wall living like an apartment or condo is not for me. A single-family home is best for me. I'm house trained and I will give out little whines and nudge you or walk to the door if I have to go outside. And if youre looking for a great walking buddy, I love to walk outside and I walk nicely on a leash most of the time. I only really pull if there is a REALLY interesting thing to sniff. When other dogs bark at me through a fence or across the street during a walk, I dont bark back. I would be happiest in a home where someone is home with me most of the time like a retiree, a stay-at-home parent, or a work from home person. I am happy to peacefully coexist with other dogs, especially with dogs who are similar in size (40-70 lbs). My foster home has three other dogs and Im good with all of them. I dont necessarily play with them, so Id also be OK as an only dog IF there is a human at home with me. I just dont like being alone. A vet recently realized that my pupils are always dilated which means I may not see super clearly. The vet recommends that my new family takes me to a veterinary ophthalmologist to see if I have a treatable condition. If its not treatable, thats probably OK because I seem to have adapted to it pretty well. I have no trouble going up or down the stairs, and I can still see the squirrels on my walks just fine! The vet thinks that my need to be near a human and/or another dog all the time might be partially related to this vision issue. (Although, Im just a love bug, too.) Given my vision impairment, a fenced yard is a must for me so that I have a safe place that is contained and where no new dogs can come in and surprise me. I just shouldnt be running or too active right now because I am Heartworm positive. TAR is helping me recover, as heartworm is treatable and preventable and not easily contagious to other dogs that may be in my new home. Ive already started my heartworm prevention medication, and I am scheduled for three heartworm cure injections: one in mid-August, and two in mid-September. Then Ill be retested in mid-October and again 6 months later just to be sure it worked. Ill need to be on heartworm prevention medicine for the rest of my life to make sure these heartworms dont come back!! If you adopt me during the treatment, TAR will continue to cover the cost of the treatment. Youll just have to go to the TAR vet in Naperville. I'm patiently waiting for my chance to be your faithful companion. If you're looking for a middle-aged guy who craves love, enjoys the company of others, and appreciates the simple pleasures in life, then look no further. When we meet, I promise that I will greet you with a wiggle butt, and I may give you some kisses. I know deep down that my perfect family is out there, waiting to cherish and adore me just as I will cherish and adore them. Just apply to meet me. I'll be your most loyal and loving companion! Love,Hudson Hudsonis in our foster home in Downers Grove. To meet this gentle boy, please complete our adoption application at: https://treasuredanimalrescueinc.org/application-dog-adoption/ Please don't let his heart worm status from stopping you for giving this sweet boy an opportunity for a home. Heart worm is treatable and also preventable. Sadly, his original owners did not keep him on his monthly preventions. **Note on fleas** Those sneaky little critters can hitch a free ride into your home aboard another pet, person, or even rodent, so it is important to make sure your new pet is protected. Depending on the time frame your adoptable pet has been in our foster care it might have had just 1 dose – which is not enough. Please consult with your Vet on putting your new adoptable pet on yearly flea/tick prevention – even if they are an indoor pet.

Adoption fees:

Puppies/Dogs - $400
Seniors - $275

**Some dog breeds require additional vetting which leads to an adoption fee to not adhere to the pricing guideline above. There are many circumstances where an adoptable pet has an adoption fee that varies from above schedule due to their vetting needs while in our foster care.

Cats & Kittens - $150

**Treasured Animal Rescue highly recommends adopting kittens in pairs, to avoid any potential behavioral issues like biting, scratching and not using the litter box. Also, adopting 2 kittens lessens stress on the tiny kitten which provides a healthier transition. **

Go meet their pets

All our Treasured Gems are located in our foster homes. The location is noted in their individual profiles. We do not have a facility or shelter for meetings. Treasured Animal Rescue is not able to adopt out of the State of Illinois. Puppy/kitten adoptions must be close to our current Vet Clinics due to their spay/neutering. A Volunteer can advise of our Vet Clinic locations.

In each of our foster pets profiles it will state if they are good with dogs, cats or children. Please note what we experience in our foster home may differ completely in a potential Adopters homes. A TAR foster parent can give much insight on their foster pet as they live in their home just like their own pets.
