My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HACHI

Available for Adoption

Are you an active person/couple/family looking for a pooch who can keep up with you? A 4-legged buddy who will walk/hike/jog by your side for miles and still have energy to spare? Well look no further because you’ve found him—me, Hachi,, the Energizer Bunny disguised as a handsome white dog.

My background is pretty sketchy. I was wandering the streets on the south side of Chicago when the police picked me up and and brought me to Chicago Animal Care and Control. That’s where one of the CARE staff found me, looking cool, calm, and collected in my kennel, and decided to bring me to the Skokie shelter. I’ve clearly experienced some mistreatment in my past that has made me cautious meeting new people But once I know you’re my friend, I relax and warm up. The staff member who’s been working with me daily predicts that after I settle into my forever home, I’ll be the most loyal, devoted, and fun canine you’ll ever know.

As I’ve said, my energy is endless, so my potential adopter(s) must commit to giving me lots of exercise each and every day, rain or shine. In addition to walking/hiking/jogging (I have good leash manners, by the way), I also adore being free for extended playtime in the backyard. I’m a
ball fanatic, particularly tennis balls (I like to surround myself with about 20), and can entertain myself for hours, tossing and retrieving them. But this game would be even more fun if you threw (or hit) the balls for me to chase and return. And maybe we could add a frisbee into the mix. Who knows, I might have the makings of a flying disc champion!

Just in case you’re wondering, I definitely have an off-switch, and I chill out indoors. Just give me a ball of some type and allow me to watch what’s going on—I really don’t like being cut off from the action. As for the basics, I’m potty trained but hate being crated. I’m getting help with
that, but it may be that crates trigger a bad memory I just can’t get past. Finally, for now, I must be the only animal in the house, and no small children (older kids would be fine).

Everyone at the shelter has been so wonderful to me, but I dream of having a kind, loving, and active forever home. I hope my bio makes you want to get to know me better, and that you’ll fill out an adoption application ASAP. Until we meet….

I have been microchipped and neutered and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. For more information or if you would like to meet me, please fill out an adoption survey at carenorthshore.org/dog-adoption-survey
