Sven is a gentle giant!

Looking for a big lovable mush? We've found him! Introducing Sven, he's 105lbs of pure fun! He's quite large, but pretty gentle so we'd say older kids for his next home. Have a dog? Bring them by to meet Sven, he's done well meeting others and has the potential to be a canine playmate!

Sven was found as a lost dog but has found his niche here at the shelter. He thrives on affection and kind words! Sven may look large and in charge but he's really a little baby. We believe he's about 5-7 years old. He's already neutered and ready to live a life filled with love! He's well trained and knows commands like sit, paw and down! Any family would be lucky to bring home our goober Sven!

Individuals wishing to adopt an animal from our shelter must complete an adoption application and provide proof of home ownership or, if you are a renter, you must provide a copy of your lease or a notarized letter from your landlord stating pets are permitted. You must be at least 21 years of age to adopt any animal from our shelter. We reserve the right to refuse any adoption. In some instances, a home visit may be required. Our fees vary depending on the age and breed of the animal. Typically, a mix breed is $110.00 and a purebreed is $150.00 and up. There is also an altering charge of $85.00 for a male and $95.00 for a female. All animals receive vaccines, microchip identification, frontline treatments.

We are opened 7 days a week between the hours of 12:00-5:00pm for adoptions. No appt is necessary and we welcome prospective adopters to bring their current pet for a meet and greet with one of our orphans.

The Newark Branch of the Associated Humane Societies provides the following services including animal control, animal surrenders & adoptions, cruelty investigations, educational outreach & low cost spay/neuter services in our stationary clinic, as well as our Mobile Spay/Neuter Unit.
